Those smart folks at GM...

I know this thread might seem pointless, but I couldn't believe my alero has automatic headlights, something you wouldn't expect for a car at that price, now even the cobalt and pursuit have them standard, what a great feature, our saab's lights come on all the time, why have DRL's on it when the headlights come on automatically all the time, there is an off switch but thats for the interior lights like window and HVAC controls. They of course shut off when the car's off like most swedish cars but using the low beams all the time front and rear is hard on the bulbs, where the alero has DRL's which aren't has bright as low beams and don't waste as much power and isn't as hard on the bulbs as the saab. GM has some really nifty features which never cease to amaze me

Re: Those smart folks at GM...

With GM's global divisions sharing all their parts and design, we can expect more wizz bang features standard in all GM products cheaply.

No doubt its the same parts doing the auto light work in the Saab as it is in the Commodore, and other GM produced cars.

Sometimes, those low powered DRLs are the highbeams with less power provided to them. Especially in cars that have 9007 headlight bulbs.

Re: Those smart folks at GM...

we had a maxima rental with auto headlights and when we pulled into the garage, they somehow came on when it got to close to the wall or it would fit inside the garage, it did it everytime, does it have a sensor in the front or something??? maybe it's because the garage is darker than daylight

Ya, there's a photocell (light sensor) on the dashboard. Sometimes when you're sitting in traffic and you slowly pass under a bridge the same thing may happen.

Ya, they're all basically like that... the delay and darkness threshold may be different though.

well i'm canadian so the fact that all cars in Canada come with DRL's doesn't wow me that much, I knew it had auto headlights, but I never knew where the sensor was
