Sat in the 9-7x, plus a few other hot cars...

Today was an interesting day for me, we went to take our saab to get serviced. We arrived at the dealership and they had a nice new Saab 9-7x with the 5.3L V8, boy is it ever nice inside, the suv is quite low to the ground so getting in and out is easy, the materials are quite nice and it's put together quite well. We sat inside this 04 9-3 Convertible which was on sale, it was so nice, we almost took it home right there lol. Anyway, we then went next door to the pontiac dealer which is run by the same people and they had a 2002 Corvette convertible there that was fully loaded. Anyway i stepped inside the car and boy is it nice, I even got to start it up, boy once that car started, it had this throaty growl that sent my blood rushing, the needles on the gauges did their rotation thing like in the pontiacs which was quite cool as well, it had the HUD in it plus all these other cool gizmos. Anybody who disses a corvette should be slapped in the face, this car is AWESOME I want one so bad, but being a young driver i'd probably smash it up lol

I drove my first covette a few years ago and it was awesome, belonged to a friend of the family and he came by to let me take it for a drive. It was a C5 convertable and plenty powerful. Last fall I got to drive a new C6 and it was hot!! People were looking at me like I was driving a ferrari... since they had just come out people didn't really recognize it. Awesome car, and just stupid fast.

yah i never have either, that's my dream car, i'm buying one by the time i'm 30 so i have about 14-15 years lol.

I know this is an old thread, i happened to see it and never realized that people replied to it so forgive me lol, anyway, since then I've sat in the new C6, that's even better than the C5, i like the push button door handles and the interior materials are top notch and it's really comfortable.

Re: Sat in the 9-7x, plus a few other hot cars...

i once sat in a mercedes-benz SLR. i ws visiting my grandparents in florida and they took their S-class in to get a new taillight, and i wandered off to the showroom. they had a silver SLR McLaren, a black maybach 57, and a silver maybach 62 (i think). anyways, the maybach's interior is AMAZING, and the SLR is one of the most stunningly beautiful cars anyone could ever see in person. if anyone wants pics, tell me, and i'll post'em .

the slr mclaren looks awesome, but it has a 5-speed auto, a clutchless manual is okay, but for such a high performance car, wouldn't a manual be a more logical choice?

Not to say all the cars weren't amazing...

MF

i felt that in a C5 i sat in, talk about cheap interior, i'm glad they improved it

I like the C6. The interior is big improvement. But it's so boring to look at.
I think sports cars themselves are just for show in the first place. it's how you drive them.. and where you take them that really make them what they are.

Still.. the 911 may be outperformed by the Vette in some situations... but the 911 will always outshine the Vette in coolness. GM needs to up the ante a bit.

Re: Sat in the 9-7x, plus a few other hot cars...

well the Z06 should cure that, i heard about a power increase? is it still 500 HP or has it gained a few horses, i don't imagine that would affect 0-60 that much, but 3.7 seconds in 0-60 is pretty freakin awesome, but it's a little too dangerous for inexperience drivers, i'd be afraid to drive one, maybe on a closed course, but not in the city, floor it and you'll be at 100 MPH in no time.

I drove a C5 convertible back in '99ish. It squeaked like crazy, and the steering felt kinda numb.

We bought a Porsche instead. The steering almost feels like it's alive, and the bodywork doesn't squeak. Not to say that it's perfect, though. I love the car, but it's demanded a few more repairs than I thought acceptable.

But I keep making them . . . .

I don't doubt the performance credentials of the Z06. There's just not enough "pizzazz" to the Vette compared to the likes of the 911 or even DB9.

I think Z06 has 505HP now.

I think Lutz will get the Vette to where it needs to be. He'll improve on the interior and the amenities. A leather covered dash on the Z06 would be nice.

i'm glad that lutz at least improved it now over a few years from now, the interior is high quality but like you said, kinda boring, i haven't driven a corvette nor a porsche 911 so i couldn't tell the difference from now, but any car with a 0-60 in under 5 seconds must be pretty awesome cuz that's pretty fast
