Saab Buying Question

Hello,

I am finally getting closer to be able to afford a car as high as $18-19k and would like to get some input from some of the saab owners and employees out there. Would a '04 Aero be money better spent than an '05 ARC? Any details or oppinions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Saab Buying Question

As a owner of an Aero to me this is a no brainer... the Aero hands down.
The power alone. However, if you are not the type to really use it and prefer a softer ride go with the Arc. IMO the '04 9-5 Aero is the best looking recent Saab until this '08 9-3.

Re: Saab Buying Question

Power is certainly something I will use. How is the traction with the car. I'm coming from an awd car so I know it won't compare there but how would you rate the 04 aero?

Re: Saab Buying Question

Doesn't the Arc have the same 210 HP HO motor as the Aero? I say go for the Arc and stay stealthy.

Re: Saab Buying Question

Ive also been doing a lot of research on the internet and I'm starting to get worried because I am reading about so many problems the Saab gives to some people... very expensive repairs, cheap interior with terrible road noise and loud rattles from plastic peices, awful stereo which is very difficult to upgrade because changing the head unit would ruin the look of the cars interior and the amps and the head unit is using optical instead of copper, poor reliability etc. If I am going to spend in the 18-19k range it really needs to be a reliable car.

What are your guys oppinions on this? All I can do is read and test drive when I get closer to buying but you guys have all the experience with the car. Any other big problems or not?

Thanks again!

Re: Saab Buying Question

Dude why buy an old one when a base model Invoice price is about 25K then you take the 4.5K off in rebates and you are at 20.5 before taxes. They will service it for 40K miles for free and you will have a 100k warranty. A used one is a no no because in 2003/04 they had some issues but they were supposed to be worked out by 05 model year that is what you are reading about not last 2-3 years. I am still thinking about getting one as soon as next month and I will not think twice about it unless the Astra comes out a little early.

Re: Saab Buying Question

I would recommend the Aero! It's a machine with 210 hp and a fantastic drive!

Arc and Aero both have the high pressure turbo with the same power.

I believe all 2006+ 9-3s are now all 210 HP, except the Aero, now with V6.
