Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

I've run across a couple forums talking about a future Saab 9-3ss with a V-6 TT.... some mention Haldex some don't... I was wondering if ne one has any links or information on this?

Here is a quote from one of the forums

"SaabJohan

Most Saab engines have four cylinders, using twin turbos on a straight four is quite pointless.

However, Saab is coming with a new twin turbo V6 engine for the 9-3ss. The engine will be based on the same V6 engine as in the 2004 Cadillac. The car will also have a 4WD system from Haldex."

Well the TT 2.8 V6 is standard on all Aeros, if that was what you were asking.

As stated above, this has already happened... except for the 4wd system.

I think it was supposed to get the Haldex system if the 9-3 was going to share the Alfa Epislon platform. But, GM decided to keep 9-3 right where it is.

Re: Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

So the current Aero is a Twin Turbo? I must have gotten lost in the terminology. I thought a twin-scroll turbo was a fancier single turbo... similar to the variable vane turbos that Porsche utilizes.

The 2.8L Turbo is a Twin Scroll Turbo... not Twin Turbo.
Twin-scroll turbos respond faster and produce boost quicker.

Re: Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

Thanx for the info mgsecuro. I also found another site which explained the process.

Nevertheless, it does bring me back to the question at hand: Has anyone heard, read or have information on what a couple of these forums keep talking about?? I'm assuming that in these forums when they say "twin turbo" they do infact mean a twin turbo and not a twin-scroll.

Re: Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

There are rumors on some Saab forums of the eventual return of the Viggen, with a 300HP twin turbo and AWD. There is also talk of a "black turbo" referenced within Saab but again just rumors as far as I know. The current twin scroll V6 puts out over 280 HP and 350 lbs/ft of torque with a simple stage 1 ECU program, and could probably be tuned to 300HP as is.

A 9-3 Viggen with 300HP this day in age, would be underpowered.

What is a "black turbo?"

We know there is a new 9-3 en route. Expect a new 9-5 by Geneva.

The current tiwn-scroll V6 actually puts out 250-255HP, depending on the application. In the Aeros, it's 250HP. In the Opel OPC's and Cadillac BLS Sport, it's 255HP

Hirsch Performance tuning already tunes the EcoPowers well past 300HP. So I would expect far more from the next 9-3 and 9-5.

Re: Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

MGESCURO,

By the "Black Turbo," Orlandoaero is referring to the new code named project car that is a future 9-3 in testing... It's been spoken about at Trollhattansaab (http://www.trollhattansaab.net/archi...s_the_bla.html) but that's the most I can guess at.

If it makes 300 lb-ft at 1500 rpm (like the 335Ci), it can be underpowered all it wants.

Re: Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

Maybe with the next gen 9-3 on the Epsilon II platform... would allow it to have AWD

The Epsilon already fits the new 3.6 and the AWD will allow for the added Hp through turbo charging....

Maybe these rumours arn't too far off

Re: Saab 9-3ss Twin Turbo ??

im sure the epsilon 2 will have awd as an option. if they are offering awd in the new 9-3 it would be pointless by chopping off awd when the totally new epsilon 2 based 9-3 comes out.
