Opel Vivaro: "Easytronic" Now Also Available for 2.0 CDTI

Quote:
  • Automated 6-speed transmission combines advantages of automatic and manual shifting
  • Reduced consumption, lowered emissions and greater driving comfort
Rüsselsheim. The automated “Easytronic” six-speed manual transmission is now also available for the Opel Vivaro with the modern 2.0 CDTI common-rail turbo-diesel (84 kW/114 hp) engine. The most popular Vivaro engine, which was introduced last fall, has 290 Nm of torque and consumes just 7.5 liters per 100 km with the Easytronic transmission, 0.4 liters less than with a manual transmission.

Formerly called “Tecshift”, the transmission was previously available for the 2.5 CDTI with 107 kW/146 hp. By offering Easytronic in the two-liter class, Opel responds to a frequent customer request. Easytronic is available in a wide range of Opel commercial vehicles including the Movano, Combo and new Corsavan.

Easytronic combines the operating comfort of a fully automatic transmission with the fuel efficiency of a conventional manual gearbox. The advantage is thatit consumes up to six percent less fuel than a comparable variant with conventional manual transmission. The clutch function is taken over by electronically controlled actuators, and the driver has the choice between manual or automatic shifting. In addition, the driver can select the load program which eases drive off with a full load, or the winter program that reduces wheel spin and serves as low-speed traction control on slippery surfaces.

The Opel Vivaro Easytronic variants boast practically the same driving performance figures as the corresponding models with manual transmission. Payload capacities are unaffected. The Easytronic option costs an extra 1005 euros plus VAT.

By expanding the range with Easytronic, Opel intends to consolidate the strong interest in the Vivaro for the future. Vivaro production facilitieslocated in the United Kingdom and Spainare currently running on the verge of full capacity. The British GM plant in Luton celebrated the production of its 500,000th vehicle in June. The plant produces the Opel Vivaro, as well as its sister model from Renault/Nissan.

If the UK and Spain plants are running at full cpacity, then this will explain why Holden wont or can't import the Opel Vivaro as the Holden Vivaro into Australia. Apart from their normal excuse ..."The business case doesn't stake up"... , least now we've found out the real story.

Though, it's always baffled me as to why Renault can sell the Trafic in Australia, but Holden can't sell the Vivaro? I mean, Renault is a much smaller player in the Australian market than Holden, so you would think they would be able to have access to the Vivaro before Renault could sell it's version here.

Thats actualy a very cool little van. That would make a great taxi or even mini-minivan, bigger then a Mazda5, smaller then an Minivan. This would be great for GMC to sell as a commercial vehicle.
This vehicle is shared with Nissan/Renault?

So is this like an SMG style thing or a DSG type thing?

The Vivaro is LARGER than a minivan, think Chevy Astro size. I always thought it would've made a great Astro replacement now that the CSVs are about to kick the bucket.

I agree.

The Vivaro would make a great commercial and family wagon vehicle for Holden in Australia.

The Toyota Tarago is not cheap and if they could bring this in under the Tarago, then it would sell very well, especially to corporate fleets, rental fleets and the hotel, resort and holiday market in Australia.

The Toyata Hi-ace is a sell out, with little other competition.

A Holden Vivaro would do very well in the commercial/business market as well.

The reason that Holden can't sell it in Australia is because the car is primarily a Renault model, and is Renault designed, and built, all opel and vauxhall do is stick on their badges and change the stereo.

Therefore Renault have first option in Australia to sell the model and i guess that because they are so small they need every sale they can get and so they won't allow Holden to sell a version here. Infact it would be more likely that Nissan would sell a twin version of this in Australia, as is done in other countries.

Its like when Chevrolet used to sell a version of the Subaru Forester and Holden tried to do the same thing but Subaru wouldn't let Holden.

I don't agree.

Holden have had an evaluation Vivaro running around for a few a while now - it's red, with a Vauxhall grill, but with Holden badges and have put to rest the Vivaro ever coming to Australia, because they couldn't put a business case together for it.

It will never come to Australia as a Nissan either, as Renault has stated that Nissan badged versions of Renaults, will not happen in Australia.
