Nav system on H3?

Hummer.com says a Navigation system is available on the H3. The catalogue that the dealers have does not mention a Navigation system as an option. Does anybody know which is correct, can anyone post an interior pic with the nav system?

Re: Nav system on H3?

The Hummer H3 will be getting a Nav system, but it might be halfway through the model year or even next model year. I am not completely sure.

Re: Nav system on H3?

GM has a double din nav system that can basically fit wherever they are using a standard radio - but its much more complicated than that. They use this system on the full size SUVS, the Vibe, and some others (non cadillacs of course) It wouldn't surprise me at all if thats exactly what it looks like.

Yes, I've used the Nav system in an Escalade, a CTS and an STS. They are all different systems. The Escalade and STS are similar since they are touch screen, but they still have a different interface. The CTS version I like the best, especially how you can customize the function of steering wheel buttons. I imagine it will be the double DIN touch screen version that will be in the H3.

Do you know if they need anything special (besides a GPS antenna) to operate? I mean, could I just buy one and stick it in or does the car need to have a certain wiring harness? I have tried to find pictures of the Nav system wiring harness but I can't.

A company called eclipse makes a double din unit with a power screen. It looks nice. Around 2K installed. DVD, Audio, Nav, CD

I wouldn't try to install the GM unit myself - everything runs through the GM radios now, and they also just merged the GPS and onstar antennaes, and may have made the two systems dependent on eachother. Who knows. I'd wait for the factory option, or do the aftermarket, or inquire with the dealer as having it done as a dealer installed option - if they'll play ball and know what they are doing.

That looks like a good system. I'm not usually an aftermarket fan but this would look factory, and for the same money as the GM option.

The other advantage to having the after market is that you can run DVD movies for passengers when the vehicle is NOT in park. Although I still figured out how to do it in the CTS and STS, it's just nice for it to be easier!

Be careful with that - I know someone who got a nasty ticket doing that. Doesn't matter if the driver is watching or not - if its in the line of sight - they assume you are, and he got hit with something like reckless operation, even though he was not speeding. He is obviously fighting it - but expects to lose. Cop passed him, slammed on the brakes and pulled him over.

Hooking up a rear screen (this unit has a takeoff) might be better. There's legislation in progress to explicitly ban this type of thing when its visible to the driver.

I am in the market for an H3 and I checked with my local Hummer dealer... he basically said the same thing: The Nav System option should be available mid-year... the interesting thing too is that it will be available on all trim levels, where is with most GM cars you have to buy the luxury package for the Nav system to even be an option.

Thanks for the heads up. I've never had any problem yet, but you never know. I don't think the H3 is high enough to prevent a cop from seeing the nav system from his car.

I dunno. I used to have a CTS and I really liked the fact that my CTS screen wasn't all gummed up with fingerprints like my dad's Escalade screen. The thing with the touch screens is that you have to keep your fingers really clean, no McDonald's in the car! Of course, everyone likes to touch the non-touch screen as well... it is so annoying.
