Hummer H4

Has anyone heard anything on a possible H4 or HX? Let me know if you have. I think it would be a cool idea.

Re: Hummer H4

It's a very good possiblility. HUMMER has already been quoted saying that they want to move to a Jeep Wrangler competitor in addition to their current lineup.

a wrangler competitor would be a good idea, but please don't try to compete with the mini cooper.

Re: Hummer H4

I heard from an insider close to the hummer brand that they have so far turned down all proposals for a hummer car. No designs have been able to match the brand image... a hummer car would basically amount to a dune-buggy (see GMi Future Product Guide for concept) and those are neither expensive nor luxurious, and therefore they dilute the hummer brand.

Re: Hummer H4

Well I think a Hummer car would be a dumb idea anyways. I was thinki8ng more like a Wrangler type vehicle.

Ya, I agree that's a good idea... but I don't think they'll do it. Like Cadillac and the CTS, I don't think hummer wants a truck that costs less than the H3. They don't want to do what BMW has done where everyone is driving around in a 3 series, compromising the prestige of the brand. They want to remain a luxury brand to aspire to. Maybe chevy will go ahead an do that cool dune-buggy concept they had a couple years ago, I forget the name of it.

Re: Hummer H4

An H4 Wrangler competitor doesn't have to cost much less than an H3, especially if it's all tricked in proper Hummer fashion.

Directly from Lutz' recent Autoweek interview:

"The idea for the H3 year was there, but there was no exterior plan. Should we have a Wrangler equivalent? Something lower priced? Yes, I believe that’s one of the priorities."

I have heard that the price of the "H4" will be under $30,000 fully loaded.

Which according to the current Hummer pricing scheme would mean that the H4 starts at just below $20K. For Comparison:

Jeep Wranger SE
2.4L engine, 6 speed manual transmission standard
Command Trac, Part Time, 4WD System
Quadra Coil Suspension
Fold Down Windshield (for off-road use only)
Removable Doors (for off-road use only)
Fold -down soft top
PRICE: $18,730
All of which Hummer could do (though a 5-Speed Manual would probably be the standard unit).

Theta's too big for a Wrangler competitor, isn't it?

Maybe use GMT 355 like the H3, although it's much bigger than the Wrangler too. The only platform that is really small enough is Kappa. I wonder how people would react to a kappa based truck? Maybe a Hummer dune buggy a la Kappa? Put some cool surf board racks on the back, I know it would fly in Australia. Maybe those boats that bring the GTOs could take H4s on their way back to Australia.

The introduction of the Jeep Commander might require a Hummer competitor.

Re: Hummer H4

I agree. Especially a cool H4 pickup, 2 seater. Something like the concept SUT displayed at that trade show a few years back. Of course the dummy bean counters at GM went for a SUV instead. Big mistake.

Thats not all too bad if a fully loaded H4 will be up to par with a Rubicon.
