H3 Inspection
While checking out Cobalts a few days ago I noticed that the dealership (a Chevy/Hummer combo) had a couple H3s on the lot. I pointed them out to my finacee and she actually squealed with delight, and immediately jumped inside. I took the time to check it out, since the only one I'd seen was from a distance at an autoshow.
The outside was very impressive. Just the Hummer styling makes it look a lot larger than it actually is. It had a very solid look to it, like it could go straight through a brick wall. Everything is well proportioned, and manages to look tough without being beastly like the H1 and H2. Taking a peak inside, I found the interior to be all that I expected: very impressive, though simple and not gaudy. The dash is one my favorites from GM, looking every bit as high-quality as the Tacoma's. The cloth seats are made of nice material with a compelling texture to them. In general, everything looked well put together and pretty spacious. My fiancee, sitting in the driver's seat, had only one problem: visibility. The rear had massive blindspots, and I agreed. High sills plus large pillars made for pretty small openings, especially between the B and C pillars. The only other complaint: sticker shock. The bottom line was just over 30Gs. I'm not sure what they start at, or what kind of option packages this particular model had, but I thought that was pretty high. On the other hand, a four-door Colorado/Canyon can approach 30,000 very quickly, and this is a Hummer we're talking about. I was busy with the Cobalts, so I wasn't able to take the H3 out for a drive, but I was very impressed with what I saw; and I was glad to see that others seemed to like it as well, as I saw a few people taking another one for rides. I think that the nice interior, combined with the "take-charge" styling, will make the H3 the object of desire for a whole lot of people. It offers a perfect low cost alternative to H2s and Escalades for the bling-bling crowd; and with more power, it can appeal to off-roaders and desert rats. And judging by my fiancees reaction, the chicks dig it as well.
