Question GM owns manual Muncies and Aisin?

So today I was in school and I was bored so I was looking over the SEC disclosure that they filed a week ago and it has subsidiaries on it. But the first company on this list is "Aisin GM Allison Co Ltd (Japan)". Now I know that Ford is using Aisin trannys either for their 5 or 6 speeds. I'm actually really rather curious why GM doesn't, I can't imagine that even if it wasn't a wholly owned subsidiary that they'd be charged an incredible amount of markup.

This is quite an interesting list though, Helm is on it. Along are a couple of things that to me are absolutely pointless like truck/bus engineering and engineering firms.

"Manual Transmission of Muncie LLC"
"Multiple Dealerships Holdings of Albany Inc" (and a few others that sound like dealerships)

BTW, if anyone wants I can post the full list.

Re: GM owns manual Muncies and Aisin?

Aisin GM Allison is a joint-venture between Aisin and Allison. Aisin supplies transmissions to various car companies, not Aisin GM who I believe makes truck transmissions.

The Holden Commodore V6 Manual has used a Japanese Aisin 6 speed trans for a couple of years now.

Aisin supplies a lot of Manuals to GM.
