Alero Owners Manual - 2004 engine Oil Caoa

I have 2 owners manuals for a 2004 Olds Alero. A first addition "A " dated 5/29/03 on page 5 - 95 lists the oil capacity, w/filter for the 2.2 L4 Ecotec with filter at 5.0 Qts. The second manual, on page 5.98 also a first addition "B ", dated 11/19/03, lists the capacity at 4.0 Qts for the same 2.2 Ecotec engine w/ filter. I have a 5 speed Getrag. I am thoroughly confused !

Further, my son has a 2002 Alero, with the same 2.2 Ecotec engine with an automatic transmission and his Owners Manual states the capacity w/ filter as 5.8 Qts.

Can someone please explain what has happened to give this totally different important service information in 3 separate owners manuals for the same car equipped with the same engine? Any assistance would be appreciated.

It's 5 quarts, with the filter...that's what my Alero Ecotec (that I used to own) held...

Thank you G.M. Sonoma. But I still do not have the answer as to why the 3 manuals differ in their information. I change my own oil and put in 5 qts as stated, but my son who also changes his own puts in 5.8 qts.

A very good ? He said it comes up to the MAX mark on the Dipper. I too, come up to the MAX on my Dipper using 5 Qts to his 5.8 Qts. Sure seems strage. I still don't have an answer to my ? of the 3 different amounts in the Manuals. We both use Mobil 1. That in itself should not make a difference.
