5.0 Cutlass Motor Swap???

I know that some of the Cutlass models came with the 5.0 V8 motor...I wanted to know since the Mustang 5.0 V8s are the same size & all....could the Mustang motor be able to fit right into the Cutlass engine bay??....are there any modifications that need to be done such as the motor mount, repositioning any parts, etc.???....if anyone has answers & more information i could know to these questions i'd really apperciate it....thanks

Re: 5.0 Cutlass Motor Swap???

The displacement of an engine has little to do with it's outer dimensions and placement of the accessories. Cross company engine swaps are very difficult in modern cars due to engine bay sizes.

yea you will have to go with a mustang trans, what years the cutlass and mustang? and you may have to do something different with the driveshaft and rear end, Im not sure how to really set that part up, I know lots of people that run with 9 inch ford rear ends on chevy streetrods and musclecars

Re: 5.0 Cutlass Motor Swap???

You'd have to do about 5 - 10 thousand dollars of custom labor, that's what. The Cutlass is too new to allow for that degree of custom work without cutting and welding. (if you could even stuff stuff RWD Mustang guts into a GM FWD platform. . .)

Re: 5.0 Cutlass Motor Swap???

The LS6 or LT1 would probably be a better fit than the Ford engine, people put small block Chevy engines in G-bodies all the time.

Re: 5.0 Cutlass Motor Swap???

I think an LT1/LSx motor will fit any SBC car, but will need different mounts.

But I think you're making this too complicated.......why not just throw in a regular old 350 Chev and build it up any way you want it?

Re: 5.0 Cutlass Motor Swap???

thanks for the help....i don't wanna put a regular 350 in because I want my ride to be unique...i want it to be "one of a kind"...i know cost is always an issue, but i'm not planning on doing everything i want at once...over time my car will progess...but if anyone knows any websites for Chevy LT1/LS6 motors & Mustang GT/Cobra Motors...could you hook me up with them.....thanks alot

www.ls1tech.com

Go to the "hybrid/swap section", look around, ask away. Someone there will have all the info you need.
