2000 Olds Ad that never aired?

Check this out and the Video from Winding Road:

http://news.windingroad.com/marketin...or-oldsmobile/

Quote:
From the “No Wonder The Brand Died” file comes this 30-second spot for Oldsmobile’s Alero featuring Gary Numan’s iconic techno ditty “Cars.” Great song, wrong brand, wrong car, in other words. Is it just us, or does it look like this marketing effort was designed to plug clothing (Gap likeness, anyone?) or perhaps hair gel?

The advertisement looks to be from the year 2000, although as none of us remember seeing it run, we can’t confirm if it ever aired, or is even official. Great song, wrong brand, wrong car.

Can anyone shed a little light?

I found it quite funny.

Too bad it never aired.

Without even seeing the video clip I can tell you that the ad did air. It was a parody of GAP ads that were on at the time. I thought that it was a good ad, it should have had more air play.

Re: 2000 Olds Ad that never aired?

(Here's what I posted there: )

This ad aired at least a few times. I know I did not see the Superbowl (not much of a football fan) and I still saw the ad several times on regular TV.

You have to appreciate the context of the ad, as at the time there were several GAP, Calvin Klein, and other ads all with a collection of “hip” kids in front of a blank photostage looking ineffectual and pitching their brand of product-cool. The ads started to get formulaic after a while (in the same way that Robert Palmer videos all featured gorgeous models playing backup) and this ad was so unexpected the first time you saw it, you couldn’t help but laugh. I don’t know if it made me want to buy an Olds, but it was damn funny.

It did air. I remember seeing it here on television. I just finished laughing at it again. Olds was trying to appeal to a "hip" demographic. Thanks for posting.

Re: 2000 Olds Ad that never aired?

I though it was a VW ad with an Alero spliced in at the end.

As for the ad, I remember it!

Heh ... I laughed the first time I saw it, but then didn't like it much the few times I saw it after that. It was comical as a "1-time" offering, but not for multiple airings.
