hi i am looking at the 2010 chevy vortec max package mostly for the 6.2 liter haha!
in a half ton, is it a alum block! and is that better then a cast iron block?
just wondering if there other people that have one just looking for opinons
on the truck like gas milages i know its not going to be the best just wondering if it would be the same as my 05 chevy crew 4x4 with 5.3, 342 ratio

please help 5.3 or 6.2 in crewcab 4x4 which one
ps i am not towing anything just like the power hahaha

Re: thoughts on the 2010 6.2 Vortec Max Pakage

The 6.2 is over rated haha just kidding. I love the 6.2 in my 2010. It blows my 5.3 I had in my 2000 and 2008 Tahoe away. When I drive the Tahoe now it feels so unresponsive comapred to the Silverado. My 2010 gets more fun to drive each day and I see more headlights in my rear view than tail lights out of my front window

As far as gas milage I am quite surprised. I am getting around 13 city which was the same for my 2000.

    HIGHWAY MILAGE:
    This is my best comparison between my 2000 (5.3 4 speed 3.73) and 2010 (6.2 6 speed 3.42)
180 mile trip north/south, took to many times to count with my 2000. I never seen above 15 mpg going north or south. In one trip over xmas I averaged 16-16.5 mpg on this same trip. Both trucks went 75-80 mph with cruise when permitting.

Note: The 6.2 takes premium (recommended) or E85. I have ran them both, not enough E85 to make any comments yet. I am at about 1500 miles.

Re: thoughts on the 2010 6.2 Vortec Max Pakage

I am supposed to get mine in the next two weeks. sticker says 12/19. I have a 5.3 with 3.42 rear end its sticker was 15/21 real world 13.5 - 14/ 17. The tow package has a 3.73 I have been told and verified on mine as to some other specialized items to aid in towing so I am assuming less coasting which is fine with me. I agree the 5.3 feels slow for 09. something changed from 08. I think the gas mileage is suffering even with the 6 speed. My 07 did better than my 08

Absolutely get the 6.2L. I've got one in my 2010 Yukon XL (non-denali) SLT and I get a big grin on my face everytime I start it. The stock exhaust rocks. Plus the extra gears in the 6-speed was meant for this engine...no matter what speed you are traveling, that combo always has great response when you mash it. It makes that Yukon XL feel like it weighs about 2000lbs less. I've only tried it once in 4-low and wow, what a torque monster it is.

Thats what the dealer thought as well when they ordered mine with the max package on lt1. I haveseen another with Z71 and 18" wheels with the engine and $1,000 add to the engine package price. I am curious if it only get a 3.08 or 3.42 rear end though. Hows the fuel economy on the yukon?

I've test driven a Sierra Denali with the 6.2L and its certainly a very fun truck to drive. It will happily drink 87 octane though its not recommended for optimal power. I'd say if fuel economy is of no issue to you, go for the 6.2L, you won't regret it.

I was given an LTZ crew cab with the 6.2L Max. I don't usually love trucks, but this was a blast to drive, despite being at the gas station after every trip between the dump and work. The sound on that truck was great too. Never liked trucks, but it was amazing. Kind of wish I kept it for more than a month!

The 6.2 L is available with the Z71 pkg or NHT pkg. You have to get one or another not both combined.

I believe that if you get the CC, you'll be stuck with the aluminum engine. My truck had the 5.3, and it was aluminum. I'm pretty sure this is just an effort to reduce weight, and there is nothing wrong with it. It might just give you a little boost in mpgs...
