I'll believe the Denali 2500 when I actually see one...which would be cool

The new 2011 Sierra HD looks OK, I'm sure the performance numbers will be there but base upon looks alone the Dodge has it beat.

The current HD's have a solid 4 bar black grill, this is now a perforated 3 bar.

The mirror on this one is the basic camper side mirror, OF COURSE their are other ones available, as there is now, including power folding, extending, and lighted.

The lower air valance does come off, but it looks better with it on. Trust me. And it is an aid in MPG.

So, the frame is different. Can anybody give me some specifics? GVW, front axle capacity, GCW and the likes. I have been hearing that GM will take a back seat to no-one with the 2011 HD's. Need a little more proof than just words.

Well thats all we have right now, is words. Until they are on lots or there is an order guide up, we have to rely on info from the dealers that were shown the new trucks in the flesh and were given that info. They will have a 20,000+ pound tow capacity. Theres not much change in the looks, its all about capability improvements that will make the 2011 HD's best in calss. NO JOKE.

That is consistant with what I am hearing. Rumors are the LML Duramax will meet or beat the Ford 6.7L in horsepower and torque, front axle capacity on 4X4's will be at or near 6000#'s, so snow plows can be mounted on crew cabs, and an all new chassis. Basically, we are supposed to get the 'real' 2007 GMT-900 HD. Now, what is not known at this point is what kind of front suspension will be on the 4X4's, and if the Vortec 6L gas engine will be updated to be competitive with Ford's new 'Boss' 6.2L.

What is it with people not liking the frame? Is it just the fact that you don't like seeing it?Seriously, if you had to have one part of your heavy duty truck that was closest to the ground, what would you rather have, a thick and sturdy frame, or some lightweight bodywork that will get bent out of shape? I just don't get it, please educate me.

That is a very good point, it is better to 'high center' on the frame rails rather than the transfer case. The thing is the current GM HD chassis is just too low to the ground. GM uses a very deep frame rail (substantially deeper than Ford's) but in order to keep the cab floor low, GM dropped he frame too close to the ground under the cab, in my opinion. Another issue with the current GM HD chassis is poor front suspension travel and lower capacity than Ford's front axle (I think it is 4,500#'s vs. 6000#'s). Compared to the Ford Super Duty, the Ford's frame rails, though not as deep, are made of thicker steel. GM uses thinner materiel, but does double it up in high stress areas.

That's not gonna happen. If truck and trailer total more than 26k you're gonna need at least a class A CDL.

Re: spied 2010 GMc Sieera shows off new perforated grille

I'm curious - when anyone discusses HD trucks on these forums, several people always mention the fact that Ford uses a solid front axle and GM doesn't, and it makes Ford's trucks more reliable. Ford's HD trucks sell better than GM's HD trucks, if I remember right.

So if this has been the case for years, why hasn't GM switched?

I thought the 2010 Ford Super Duty can total more than 26k.

Maybe so. I really haven't checked....

Either way, if you roll across the scales over 26k around here, you're gonna need a CDL.

Any of the current trucks can pull that kind of weight. Heck, my old 170hp '81 K20 has pulled 30k of grain a few times through the fields.

Re: spied 2010 GMc Sieera shows off new perforated grille

Thats kinda true. They had a trucks! episode where a demo bullydog hopped up silverado HD pulled like 160,000 pounds! I think it was a tank on a flatbed or something. They can do it, just not usually at high speeds and with continued use without something breaking.
