    Sierra Denali Engine

Does anyone know if, or when, the Denali engine (Vortec 6200) L92 will be offered in a flex fuel version? A GMC rep called me and said it could be out as early as May or as late as 2009 model year. Anyone?

I don't know about future engines, but the 6.2 only runs on 91+ octane (recommended) and will run on 89, but has an distint power loss due to the anti knock system that retards the timing.

You sure about this? I have my serious doubts. Any references would be nice to see. What's the compression ratio for this engine?

I was under the impression that the 6.2L ran on 87 octane. 89 or 91+ wasn't required and not needed. I could be wrong though.

I just bought mine. As I said, you CAN run ANY engine on 87 octane. If you want MAX performance from THIS engine you will need to use 91+. From what I was told, the anti knock system will retard 4-8 deg timing, or as much as it needs to stop the detonation.
I don't know off hand what the compression is, but I could tell the performance difference between the two octanes.

If this is true, I am glad I opted for the loaded Sierra SLT with the 6.0 instead of spending the extra $4k on the Denali. Because I would feel the need/desire to buy the 91 octane since I am kind of a "motorhead" and that would raise my monthly gas bill significantly. I am going to opt for a perf tune that will maximize my power and still allow me to run 87 octane.

I'm currently in the market for a 2007 Denali. What options did you get and what was the final sale price. I want to have an idea when I go in for negotiations.

So far I haven't heard anything from GM on when these engines (6.2) will have a flex fuel option. Seems like Cadillac owners would be asking for it to.

I also hear 2008's will have a HD radio option as well. I think I might wait.

    FYI, the L92 has a 10.5:1 c.r.

That would explain the higher perf with 91 octane...Thanks!!!

You can get the 5.3 in there. Not quite as much power, but the MAX would be awfully fun to drive.

Mine has every option available to order (except the steering wheel heater and the block heater. Not real popular options here in California!).
It listed (MSRP) @ $48320.00 and I paid $46720.00 w/ tax and license.
The agreed price was $250 over invoice.
Standard MSRP w/o options and destination charges was $41195. Options was $6225. Plus there was a $1250.00 rebate.

Sweet truck!!! May I suggest swapping out the "holey" (cheap) plastic grille with a "CarriageWorks" brand aluminum billet grille? Just my opinion, what matters is what YOU like. Just check it out at least, they are really nice, I put one on mine. The upper one runs around $200 and the lower around $100.
