Re: return of the Diesel Suburban?
I understand why GM wants the 4.5L to be in the burban, but what I don't get is why not have the 6.6L in there now??

Re: return of the Diesel Suburban?
My only guess as to why the 6.6L isn't in there is because GM feels that engine is too expensive for the market they are going after with the Suburban. I'm sure it would make for a torque monster of an SUV but I think it is too heavy duty. A person who will want a 6.6L will want a truck, not a luxurious SUV.

Re: return of the Diesel Suburban?
The allison used behind the 6.6 won't fit in the frame of the suburban. If you notice the GMT800 HD or revised version for the 900, look at an 800 HD sometime. Note the frame and how far it hangs down below the body on the pickups. That frame was developed for the allison transmision to fit in. The Suburban does not have it.

Re: return of the Diesel Suburban?
The lifting of the frame to fit in the Allison, which is required for the powerful 6.6L duramax, doesn't work in the Suburban like it does in the Silverado for some reason.
The 4.5L solves that since it runs with a normal GM 6 speed auto. And don't worry....if it's anywhere near the production numbers, the 4.5L will be plenty powerful. |

Re: return of the Diesel Suburban?
Oh please make it so. Hell, stick a Duramax into every SUV.

Re: return of the Diesel Suburban?
^^^Yeah, so then we can have a $40000 Lambda with a $7000 diesel option and a $2000 tranny! $50,000 Acadia, I think not! GM needs to do the diesel thing a little cheaper, or once they start hitting dealers everybody will be doing the 9 years loans! A loaded up Suburban LTZ with a Duramax would be more expensive than a Tahoe Hybrid!
