Re: need new tires

Hey guys, thanks for all the recommendations. I was on tire rack last night looking at them and there were just too many choices thats why I came here. Time for more research.

Re: need new tires

I did a lot of research before picking the Yokos for my truck, the other tires that were rated the highest were the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's.

Re: need new tires

I have less than 10K on my tires, so I can't comment on long term wear. I can tell you they seem to have more grip in the snow than my oem set.

My New Balance running shoes have more grip than the piece of crapola Bridgestone Duellers that tend to come on the trucks. Junkola tires.

TIP - Buy from tirerack.com and have Walmart mount them when they're shipped to you, price them at a local tire shop and see how much you'll save.

I have about 10,000 miles on mine, and they still look brand new. But yeah, they look great! I was going to buy mine from Tirerack, but Discount Tire matched the price and even made it cheaper in the long run with the tire warranties and such. Which is a good thing, at 6,000 miles I hit a piece of metal that was by some rail road tracks and it went through all 6 plys in the side wall. Discount didn't ask questions (because of the warranty), they just replaced it, balanced and rotated my tires and I was on my way in about 20-25 minutes.

Re: need new tires

BFG Radial A/T KOs. I get 60k miles out of mine, rotated, check pressure, ballanced, etc.

Forteras are okay, not as good in snow, IMO.

Re: need new tires

I bought Bridgestone Dueler Revo's last year for my truck. I absolutely loved them when we got a snowstorm last Feb. Nothing could stop my truck! They were a little pricey ($800) but were worth the extra cost IMO. Michelin's are great but be prepared to shell out close to a grand for those.

Re: need new tires

I have used Tire Rack for years and am surprised it took me so long to realize one of the specs they list is tread depth which tells a lot about a tire, especially one for off road or winter use. Tread depth VARIES so get one that will do the job. To narrow down a big selection, pick one and then look at the reviews and comparisons and it will show you which type scored the highest in that segment. Those pros knows!!!!!!

I loved the Revo's on my Yukon. When I got tires for my truck it was between the Revo's and the Firestone Destination A/T. I got the Destinations b/c the are basically the same as the Revo's (technology, compound, etc) just a different tread pattern. So, I tried them and have been pleased so far. A little cheaper per tire, but not a deal breaker.

Re: need new tires

Right now I am running Nexen Roadian M/T on the back and Firestone Wilderness A/T on the front (i no it looks funny but....) I no the Wildernesses are unavailable but the destinations are very similar. They will last 50-60,000. My uncle has them on his 1/2 ton chevy, they may not meet the needs of your conditions though. I like the tread on the Nexens but i don't no how long they will last (mine only have about 2000 but still look brand new). BFG All Terrains are supposed to be really good snow tires and the old ones lasted forever but the new ones aren't quite the same.

Re: need new tires

my experience with bridgestone was bad- they didnt last long at all. they were stockers so im sure that had soemthing to do with it.

i used to have pro comp all terrains which i really liked, they worked really well and they were mud and snow rated (they have a mountain and snow flake pic on the sidewall) and they had a 50,000 mile tread life warranty. the tread design is similar to the bfg all-terrain (which is another solid choice). i would still have them if they didnt get slashed. i picked them over the bfg's because of the warranty- which i probably wouldnt have needed with the way they were wearing.

i now have nitto terra grapplers which are also really good (at least theyre made in the u.s., i couldnt find another a/t in this size). they are heavy and stiff though (load range e) but theyre 10 ply which is awesome for offroad (i feel the pro comps were better though). ive had them for a year and a half and have put 30 thousand miles on them and have had very little tread wear. they are a little pricey, i paid about 200-220 a piece for a 34" (305/70/17) but worth it imo.

tire rack is a good site, but they dont have everything. to me theyre more for car and light truck road tires. there isnt too much info on off-highway use.

Re: need new tires

I just bought some BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO tires (LT 265/75 R16.) They are normally $189 a tire, but on tirerack.com are $149.... great deal. Even with shipping it was cheaper than any dealer/mechanic i contatcted. Note: your rim size is 17, so this deal isn't for you

Its only been about a week since I've had them, but they ride GREAT!!!! Very little road noise (i'm sure that will only increase) and they handle great.

Of course I had some bridgestone duluer A/T's on there, but they were the radial edtion, they rode terrible and didn't grip good. The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo line is a great line though.

Have you found tires yet?

Re: need new tires

Thanks for all of the good advice. After a lot of research, I went with the BFG Long Trail. They got great reviews from tire rack and discount tire direct. I ended up paying $145ish on discount tire direct. So far I like them but I don't have many miles on them.
