need new tires

I have an 06 silverado 1500 4x4 v8 and I need new tires. I currently have the Good Year Wranglers 265 R70 X 17. I want to stick with this size, but don't know what brand to get. I live in Rhode Island so iIneed all season tires, there's just so many options. Please let me know what you recommend. Thanks.

Re: need new tires

Go on tirerack.com

Put in your truck's information and it pulls up the stock tires or put in your tire size.

Then check out the tires they have avaliable. They have professional (through tirerack) and consumer reviews and even if you don't buy from there you can decide which tires you want. I've done it twice through them and I think their service is excellent.

Re: need new tires

Wrangler Silent Armor's.. I've had 2 sets of 265/75/16's on my Silverado and just love them.. I'll also add that for snow, the Nokian Vativa's are Superb!! Those particulars are made here in the states by Cooper. They are a softer rubber compound though and will wear faster than the Silent Armors.

Re: need new tires

There are two truck tires I recommend. One is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo, and the other is the Firestone Destination A/T. Both are on/off road with a hint of agressiveness, but are quiet and smooth riding.

Re: need new tires

Tire Rack gives ratings that are very helpful. I suggest you consider going to a 75 series or a 285. For where you live, a little more ground clearance would be good.

I love my Toyo's Open County A/T 285/75/R16 on my 04 Z71 Silvy. I have had some buyers remorse, and should have found some built in the US.

Re: need new tires

I currently run the ever popular BFG All-terrain on my truck and I couldn't be happier.

Re: need new tires

I have treadwright retread tires 245/75R16 on my 2004 Silverado and they work great and cheap too . they are Michelin cases , they have taken logging road abuse and old gold mining roads fast with one flat .

Re: need new tires

I'm very happy with BFG Long Trail TA Tour tires. I have 20k+ miles on a set, and they still look & grip like new and are very smooth riding. But these may not look aggressive enough for your tastes, as they are more highway oriented.

Re: need new tires

I can strongly recommend the Yokohama Geolander AT/S tires, by far the best tires I've ever had on either of my trucks. Much better than Goodyears, Toyos or BFGs.

TIP - Buy from tirerack.com and have Walmart mount them when they're shipped to you, price them at a local tire shop and see how much you'll save.

I wasn't impressed with mine, but I only got another year and a half out of them after I got the truck, so they weren't new when I got it.

Go with the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A I like 'em. They pick up more stones than the Toyos did, but they look bad-ass!

My cousin also didn't like the Toyo's he put on his Dodge, they're expensive and they wear fast just like the BFG all terrains (they do look bad ass though).

Ya, the Toyos just looked bad. I know the BFGs aren't the longest lasting, but they look good while they last.
