Re: My/Your Ideal GMC Lineup

How about a Sierra Sport single cab with the 6.2 liter (trimmed out like the old SS454 Chevy truck) ?

I like your ideas for a dream lineup. Sounds good to me!

Re: My/Your Ideal GMC Lineup

Here we go... under my lineup I have GMC going to special order work trucks, with the Sierra Denali and Yukon Denali becoming the Silverado Denali, Tahoe Denali, and Suburban Denali.

GMC Terrain - Crossovers aren't work trucks, but for those who need a vehicle that's cheap and rugged, but don't need a huge towing capacity, the Terrain is there. 2 seat standard, 2nd row optional.
GMC Acadia - Same mission as the Terrain, but bigger. 5 seat standard, 3rd row optional.
GMC Jimmy - Based on the Blazer's RWD unitruck platform, 2 and 4 dr, 1 row, optional second row. Similar mission to Terrain, but much more capable, for middle of the road customers.
GMC Himalaya - Based on the large RWD unitruck platform that will also underpin the Crewman. Similar mission to Jimmy, but larger. 4dr, 2 row, no optional third row. If you need to carry that many people, you can get an Acadia or Yukon.
GMC Crewman - A SLIGHTLY reworked Denali XT concept.
GMC Sonoma - The Canyon name can go, Sonoma is more recognizable. GMC's smaller BOF truck.
GMC Sierra - GMC's larger truck, for heavy-duty customer's. C4500 and above are Topkick.
GMC Yukon and Yukon XL - Like Sierra, for heavy-duty customers who need more than the Himalaya.
GMC Safari - The cargo version of the Opel Vivaro, Astro is passenger version.
GMC Savanna - The cargo version of the Opel Movano, Express is passenger version.

Re: My/Your Ideal GMC Lineup

Here's my ideal GMC model lineup:

Here's my ideal Pontiac lineup:

Here's my ideal Buick lineup:

Oh yeah, almost forgot Saab:

For comparison, here's the current Oldsmobile lineup:

They all look the same, don't they? Fact is GM has way too many brands, and way too many dealerships. All they need is Chevrolet, Cadillac, maybe Saturn, and GMC only if it becomes a commercial truck brand. G.M. really needs to wake up to the fact that it isn't 1969 anymore.

Re: My/Your Ideal GMC Lineup

K, here's what I think:

Sierra 1500: Keep it GMT-900, the design would recieve some XT concept in it, 6 speeds all across the board, base engine would be the 4.9 from the XT concept, making 320hp, 330-350 ft.lbs., then have the following engines available: 5.3 V8, 355hp, 390 ft.lbs, 6.2 V8, 410hp, 420 ft.lbs, the new 4.5 Duramax, 320hp, 520 ft.lbs. All engines will feature AFM, VVT and DI and are available on reg cab, ext. cab and crew. Gassers are all E85 compatible. Front axles for 2WD would have heavy duty independent coilovers (to support Dmax weight,) 4WD would have a heavy duty coilover setup, indentical to the current one, with a front axle rating of 4100 lbs, 4300 w/ plow prep, diesel front ends are rated at 4600lbs. Trims include S, SL, SLE. SLT is gone, because these would be marketed for work use, towing use, not as a grocery getter. Towing ratings for 1/2 ton would be from 8500-11,500 lbs. $17,000-$34,400.

2500HD: Keep on GMT-900, add a little XT concept to it, however, a stronger boxed version of the frame would be used. 6 speeds would be used across the board. Base engine would be the 6.0 V8, making 370hp, 390 ft.lbs. Optional engines include the 6.2 V8, 410hp, 420 ft.lbs, and the 6.8 V8 Duramax, 420 hp, 720 ft.lbs. Gas engines feature AFM, VVT, and DI, and are E85 compatible. Duramaxes get an all new 8-speed Allison 1500, and also an 8-speed MT. While gas engines keep the same AT. All engines are available on reg cab, ext. cab, and crew cab. 2WD drives get the same axle setup used to date, however with a boosted front load capacity. 4WD get an all new front solid axle setup, (similar to super duty setup,) with standard load capacity of 5600 lbs for gas, diesel fronts are boosted to 6200 lbs. Plow prep for all engines gives better cooling and upgraded clutch fans and 4 upfitter swithces. Trims include S, SL, SLE. SLT is gone, because these would be marketed for work use, towing use, not as a grocery getter. Towing ratings: 2WD: 14,000-18,000 lbs, 4WD: 13,500-17,500. $23,600-$36,700.

3500HD: same everything as 2500HD, srw and drw, towing ratings upped. 2WD:17,500-20,500 lbs, 4WD: 17,000-20,000 lbs. $25,200-$38,200.

Canyon: All new, sierra oriented design with a bit of denali xt concept thrown in. An all new fully boxed frame would be employed for strength(GMT-365). Regular, ext. and crew cabs would be available. Base engine would be the 2.3DI I-4 that will be found under the hood of the Terrain, maknig 205hp, 230ft.lbs. Optional engines include a 3.3 V6, derived from the 3.6 DI, making 250hp, 275ft.lbs and the 4.9 V8 from the XT concept, making 320hp, 340ft.lbs. Also, a 2.9 I-4 Duramax would be added, making 230hp, 330ft.lbs. All engines, featuring AFM, VVT and DI, are available on regular, ext. and crew cab configurations, with either a six speed manual or AT. Front ends are beefed up, and feature coilovers on 2WD and 4WD, however, the rear end features a heavy duty 5-link suspension, consisting of coils, shocks, and two trailing links per side. Towing capacity ranges from 5000-8000 lbs. Trims include S, SL and SLE, no SLT. Prices rang from $14,200-$24,400.

Yukon: Minor visual changes, features a bit of XT concept. No longer on GMT-900, but on an all new unibody platform, replacing the Acadia (a super Lambda, but with the same ground clearance of the current Yukon) and be only 200-400lbs. more that the acadia. The Yukon would keep the current suspension it has, keeping coilovers in front, multilink solid in rear. 6 speed AT's across the board. Engines include a base 4.9 V8, 320hp, 350ft.lbs, the 5.3 V8, 360hp, 390 ft.lbs, and optional 6.2 V8, 410hp, 420ft.lbs, and the 4.5 Duramax, 320hp, 520ft.lbs. All engines feature AFM, VVT, and DI, and gas engines are E85 capable. Trim levels include S, SL, and SLE. Prices range from $30,500-$39,600.

Yukon XL: Remains on GMT-900, body features a bit of XT concept. Gets the Yukon's engine choices, while the XL 2500 gets the 2500HD engines, however, the diesel for 1/2 and 3/4 ton Yukon XL's is the 4.5 duramax. Trim levels include S, SL, and SLE. Prices range from $37,450-$45,500 for the 1/2 ton, $39,250-$46,400.

Acadia: dead, replaced by Yukon.

Envoy: All new, basically the H3 and HX put together. Smaller in size, around 4 inches longer than the old Jimmy. The envoy would sit on an upgraded GMT-360 platform(GMT-370). The Envoy would come in 2-door, or 4-door. It would feature the Canyon's rear suspension, while using a coilover setup in front. Engine choices would be the 3.3 V6 from the Canyon, 250hp, 275ft.lbs. Also, it would recieve the 2.9 I-4 Duramax, 230hp, 330ft.lbs. The 4.9 V8 would also be used, 320hp, 340ft.lbs. 6-speed AT would be in use. 2-door and 4-door seat 5. 2-door models get a removeable 3-piece roof, consisting of a rear, and 2 top pieces. Trims include S, SL and SLE. Prices range from $18,500-$24,500.

Savana: Stays pretty much the same, sits on GMT-900, recieves Sierra styling however. Engines include the Sierra engine choices. Passenger models seat 8-15. The van comes in 1500, 2500 and 3500 variants. 2500 and 3500 models use the same engines but instead, gets the 6.0 V8 out of the 2500hd. Trims inclued S, and SL. Prices range from $25,400-$33,500.

Hybrids:

Sierra 1500: Same as current hybrid, just uses the 4.9 V8 instead. recieves the styling of the regular Sierra. Trims include SL, SLE, and Denali. Prices range from $33,600-$45,800.

Canyon: Same as regular Canyon. Uses the 2-mode technology equipped with the 3.3 V6. Trims include SL and SLE, 2WD or 4WD. Prices rang from $25,600-$29,600.

Yukon and Yukon XL: Same as current, uses the 4.9 V8 instead. Yukon XL uses the 6.0 V8. Trims include SL, SLE and Denali. Prices range from $43,500-$49,500.

Envoy: 2 or 4-door, uses 2-mode technology combined with the 3.3 V6. 2WD or 4WD, SL, SLE or Denali. $26,500-$30,500.

Z71: Pretty much no longer an option, but a whole vehicle instead.

Sierra: The Sierra Z71 is identical to the Sierra. However, it recives a 3-inch suspension lift, and 295/75/17's. Engines include the 4.9 V8, 5.3 V8, 6.2 V8 and the 4.5 Duramax, all mated to 6-speed AT. Z71 features the 3-inch lift, skid plates, the bigger tires, locking front, rear and center diffs, optional front bull bars with off-road lights and decals. All features plus engines are available on reg, ext. and crew cabs. Trims include S, SL and SLE. Prices range from $22,650-$32,650.

Sierra 2500HD: Same as regular 2500HD. Gets 3-inch lift, 305/75/18's, full locking diffs, locking hubs, skids, optional bullbaar w/lights, decals. All cab configs, 6.0 V8, 6.2 V8 and the 6.8 Duramax. S, SL or SLE, prices range from $27,500-$35,500.

Canyon: Same as regular Canyon. Recieves a 2-inch lift, 275/70/17's, skid plates, optional bullbar with lights, decals and front, rear and center locking diffs. Engines include the 3.3 V6, 4.9 V8 and the 2.9 I-4 Duramax. Available in reg, ext. and crew cab configs, S, SL and SLE trims. Prices range from $20,500-$28,500.

4.9L V8 was the engine from the XT concept, so I used that instead.

I picked Envoy to give it a new life, something different.

And I'm glad you liked the Z71 thing.

Re: My/Your Ideal GMC Lineup

I think the market is heading for smaller lighter trucks. I think there will be a need for some type of unibody pickup, besides the pontiac G8Camino (maybe ones that are actually functional)

Also new midsize truck or a smaller helf ton, prefferably one with shorter bed hights to better suit the part of the truck market that acuatlly needs trucks and actually works out of the back them every day.

I like your ideas for a dream lineup. Sounds good to me!
YES! YES! YES! A 6.2 6-speed auto. I would be there with bells on. The only configuration of the new Dodge Ram short box regular cab is the R/T with the Hemi 5.7. Lets bring back the Sierra GT from the 90's!
