    leveling kit, suspension lift?

hey i have a 2004 Chevy silverado 1500 4x4 ext. cab truck and i was looking into putting some 295/75R16 tires on it and i was wondering what i would have to do, if anything, so that the tires wont rub. will a leveling kit be the answer and if so how big? or would i have to have a suspension lift?

what is that like a 33? all you should have to do is raise the front end to level it out and you should be fine. i cranked my torsion bars on mine to level it and then put on 285/70/17s and i was fine. the 295s may rub a little, but i dont think it would be too much. the ride is a little harder, and you have slightly less down travel, but nothing significant. anything bigger or wider than that though and i suggest a lift. my 305/70/17s just fit with a lift and the level, and i had to remove the black air dam too cause it was rubbing that.

and if your only going to lift 2 or 3 inches just do a body lift. you'll save tons of money and it'll have mostly the same result

I'm pretty sure Summit Racing sells torsion keys for your truck (~$130) that will raise the front 2 inches. I'd do a couple of google searches though because I have no idea if you'd need longer front shocks.

Edit - here are the torsion keys from Summit:

2nd Edit - here's a GMI thread about using torsion keys
Pros and Cons with a torsion key lift?

If it were me I would not waste money on new keys. Not to mention the dangerous process of unloading the torsion bars and removing the existing keys. The only thing you will gain by installing different keys is that it will allow for increased adjustment of the bars. Your oem keys should allow enough adjustment to get your truck leveled if thats what your looking for.

Just remember the more you crank them, the more you are increasing preload and your ride while become more harsh.

I had a buddy at an alignment shop crank up the torsion bars on my old S10 about an inch, it stiffened the ride but not that noticeably.

I've heard the new keys are better than just cranking the torsion bars, I don't honestly know though.

I had a 2000 Tahoe, placed Ford torsion keys (indexed differently over stock keys) and was able to stuff 285's in w/ no problem. You will not need longer shocks but will need an alignment afterwards:

    Same with your avatar.

For what it's worth the 295/75/16 is 33.2" to 33.6" tall depending on brand.

Thank God. I was hoping not....after I posted it. I felt better when I noticed a C5 Corvette was not mentioned in the "drives:" section (below the avatar)!

True....I put a set of my dad's 285 winter tires on before buying my own set of the BFG AT KO's. By stuffed I mean you can't go any larger w/out some mods. Plus different tire brands measure out differently as well.
