I was just wondering how many of you have older cheavys? I have a 1986 K5 blazer a lot of people online have come to know the truck because of my Custom floor project.

The photo says 2006 but it was really 2007

Re: K5 blazer....older chevy truck

Great truck. I used to drive a 77 Sierra stepside, so I know a little about the older GM trucks.

I want either a late 80s K5 Blazer/Jimmy or a '89-'92 Grand Wagoneer as my weekend truck.

Do you have any photos of the '77? I'm having a little trouble with my carb at the moment but other then that it's a fun truck to drive around.

Re: K5 blazer....older chevy truck

I had a 86 Blazer, and it needed a rear floor in it, and that was twelve or more year ago.

I currenty have a 57 Chevy Pickup, 65 Corvair Vert, and 92 Caprice Wagon.

I have some polaroids of it at my parents house in Louisiana. Next time I am there I'll try to scan them.

I think Fordrules has a similar truck to what I had...except his is an 80s model with the long wheelbase fleetside bed.

Re: K5 blazer....older chevy truck

How many of you guys have heard of the '76-'77 Blazer Chalet (or the GMC Jimmy Casa Grande)?

I put a pic of my own '77 Blazer Chalet in the photo thread, post #43 1973-1987/1991 GM Trucks/SUV Picture Thread and if you don't mind a bit of bouncing around the internet, I have an explanation thread here http://www.coloradok5.com/forums/sho...62#post2201462 with an accompanying "post your sightings" thread http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227805

A general info site is here http://blazerchalet.com/ and our Chalet owners' forum is here http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...BlazerChalets/ (Yahoo Autos Groups forums require membership - free! - to see the photos and read the messages). And, I have posts about these going in this one http://gmtrucks.org/showthread.php?t=334 and this one http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=269766 Plus you can see vintage brochure scans here http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/GMTrucks/1976/index.htm and here http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/GMTrucks/1977/index.htm

So, you could say I'm out treasure huntin' for more of these old GM factory campers..... PM me if you've seen one.

I looked at the picture of your Chalet in the other thread - very nice shape! I'm not sure I've ever seen the '77 brown/tan paint scheme in person. I've read that these aren't the easiest things to keep up. I remember when these came out, and I have the '76 Chalet and '77 Casa Grande brochures you pictured in your other thread, along with road tests in PV4 magazine, Popular Mechanics, and a Peterson's 4WD and Off-Road special road test edition. I also visit www.blazerchalet.com from time to time

I rarely ever see them anymore. The last one I saw regularly was a very rusty Chalet in '76 colors at a house on a busy road near my home, but that's been close to ten years ago. Glad you are taking such good care of yours. How's the inside?

I had that carb- spray that seemed to work a little when it stuck.

Mine was single barrel carb, so every morning starting it took at least 2 good cranks and very quick pressing/depressing the accelerator action. Lots of folks say that you should push the gas all the way down, but mine used to do better when I moved my foot back and forth really fast...then did the same thing after it started to keep it from stalling.

I also had a problem with the gearbox. I had a three speed manual "on the tree" that was converted to a floor mounted hurst shifter that downright sucked...it used to get stuck into gear or get hung up and couldn't get out without a little crow bar and hammer action. Ususlly if I found a foward gear, I could get it to move and then get it released enough where I could shift again. Unfortunately, it got hung up once on a rail road track and I had to climb under the truck to losen the linkage enough to get it into neutral.

Maintaining the Chevy part ought to be easy since it is pretty much all standard Blazer stuff, the camper part requires basic handyman skills to fix whatever starts to fall apart. I had to reassemble the closet with wood screws as the original staples were losing their grip. Other Chalets in wetter parts of the country suffer from the poorly designed roof, which allows water to seep in rather than run down the sides. Nice thing about the interior of mine is that it was reupholstered fairly recently, so I don't have to worry about fixing that. Keep an eye out for others!

Re: K5 blazer....older chevy truck

It was one seriously painful day when I had to sell my 86 K5....I loved it even though it was rusted and had that pretty nasty white and peach two tone paint job.

I wouldn't have changed the color though, it was just too awesome. I will have another someday as a trail truck.

Right now I've got a 95 C1500...Love it but it has no 4WD!!!!!!

Big minus with farm and construction work

Re: K5 blazer....older chevy truck

Let me tell you about my old '85 Chevy Van. It was great. Fast (350 V-8), comfortable (Leather interior) great looking, (Red/White) and bog reliable. Chevy & GMC trucks are the best in the world, no doubt.
