Guesses on Weight Reduction on New K2XX versus GMT900

I know the official weights of the new K2XX Trucks hasn't been announced, but considering GM has been telling us of the weight savings they would have with this new design; what do you guess is the weight reduction from the equivalent GMT900? If you don't think they reduced the weight say so and state how much of an increase it will be.

I think the new K2XX Trucks will be 350 lbs lighter. It isn't everything promised (500# reduction) but pretty good.

With the relatively minor changes in dimensions, I would expect under 200 lbs, maybe under 100. I think the real weight loss will await the next generation and Ford's 700 lb weight loss.

I'm hoping for around 250lbs. I thought I heard that they were going with aluminum doors as well as hoods. And thinner seats ought to save a few pounds. Isn't there some weight savings in the engine as well?

I'm not sure what the difference between the iron block and aluminum one are, but with addition of direct injection pump, VVT, removal of hydraulic power steering and addition of the electrical system, addition of the vacuum pump, the new (I imagine) heavier valve covers, and other smaller things, I think the engine weight is going to be a wash. The differential for the V-8's is a 9.5, or a 9.75, which are bigger than the current ones, so only thing I could surmise is more weight.

Frames alone are reduced by 20 kilos, according to the video with the chief engineer. Aluminum hood is going to save a few too. Not sure how much heavier (if any) is cold-rolled steel versus hot, by square foot, but I imagine it's not much.

Overall I think the truck is going to be marginally lighter, maybe 100 lbs., in comparison to the old one if all things are equal that is.

I don't recall GM ever promising a certain weight reduction, but they have been saying for at least a few years that the cars and trucks were too heavy (and therefore needed to be reduced in mass,) so I expect to see the RESULTS of said weight loss program, such as the ATS, and hopefully the CTS+ and all the alpha products.
When you look at the weight of the Colorado 7, it doesn't look like any weight loss, so I'm not expecting much loss on the big trucks. I'm thinking they COULD lose 800-1000 pounds, but not without expensive and extensive use of aluminum, carbon fiber and an ATS type weight loss program, which I haven't heard of for the trucks

If you read between the lines of the press release it looks more like it will be about the same weight but with more capability. Even the new wider wheels will be heavier, though 'many' models will have alluminum front control arms to compensate in un-sprung weight.

Press reports a few years ago were talking about a 500lb wieght reduction - perhaps 500lbs had come out of the lighter hood and cab - but a few hundred pounds were added in other areas.

If there was a noticeable weight reduction GM would have touted it loudly. They didn't.

There can't be much weight loss, unless they use all aluminum. Then, the trucks would be ridiculously expensive.

Does this logic apply to why we haven't heard anything about the power output on the new engines yet?

Now that GM has all but ignored the specifications (weight) of the K2xx trucks, what do y'all think will be the change in weight?
Increased weight - decreased weight- or no real change?
