GMT900 or K2x? To buy or not to buy, that is the question...

...Notwithstanding the slings and arrows and outrageous fortune.

But if you could really get an actual deal like this on the outgoing GMT900 - knowing that K2x will not be discounted *and* likely have higher base prices at trim levels across the board, would it be more savvy to get a loaded GMT900 at the same price as a stripped down K2x?

    http://www.schaumburgbuickgmc.com/Ve...-IL/1773202773

If you could really get an MSRP of $34,700 for $26,200, wouldn't that buy a lot of fuel savings? You'd never save $8500 in fuel. Even if the V6 was 17/25mpg vs a "2007 technology" 293cid V8 and 4spd auto with a dismal 13/18mpg rating. And consider that for a $26K MSRP of K2x that might get you little more than the 325 V8. Then again the K2x WT will have many features that were previously only standard on the LT/SLE like power locks and the six guage instrument panel. There are other new baseline standards to consider like 8" wide wheels - and the 300hp V6 with 3.23s and 6pd would lay waste to this 4x4 4spd 293 on the drag strip, but what if you don't care that much about acceleration? Besides, a RC with 300hp is no slug - even with a 4spd.

But think of it: 4wd, higher trim level - Onstar and SiriusXM. It's tempting. 4wd vs. 2wd alone is a very, very big deal

What would you rather do: Pay fire sale prices for a loaded "2007 technology" model or MSRP for a base model with "2014 technology"?

I'd drive both, and then decide.

I just bought a 2013 for about $10500 under sticker including rebates (and GM Card $2000 Topoff).
I was planning on waiting for a 2014, but this deal was to good to pass up. I figure even if I fall in love with the next gen GMC I won't get hurt too bad with this one.

I'd not worry too much about performance figures...aftermarket has anything and everything for the current 4.3, 5.3, and the 6.2 that would remedy any discrepancies between the current and upcoming, except the gas mileage. Now is the time to buy a truck at deep, deep, discounts.

I'd by a 2007 and be even further ahead in the game.

You can even do better than that price....in 2011 my dad bought a Silverado that stickered at $34,500 for $27,000 before tax.

That said, that model sucks...how does a regular cab with the 4.8 sticker at that price? Look for an All Star Edition before they are gone.

This is an MSRP of $34,700 going for $26,200 (assuming all of the discounts which is a big assumption) so $8,500 off the top.

It's an SLE but...yeah. And only GM would have an MSRP of nearly 35K - and NO power chair. It does have the nice alloy wheels - something the SLE/LT does *not* come standard with now but which will be standard with the K2x SLE/LT.

And speaking of All Star Extended Cabs, here's the rub for me:

I just don't need or even want an EC - I much prefer the RC. It would just barely fit in my garage and the longer wheelbase and length is a big disadvantage in tight quarters in the city. And to expand beyond that: I don't 'need' 4wd - I had great results in a 2wd RC Silvy with the G-80 for snow driving.

This gets to an important point about buying into super deep discount. You will get a bigger price break on the Crewcabs and more loaded models, but if you are buying things you don't really 'need' (alloy wheels are nice, but are weaker than steel and more expensive to replace) or will never use - like a six passenger cab - is it really that shrewd of a buy?

Yes, you will be spending the same for 'a helluva lot more truck' but if all those extras are things you won't be using - like say it had a max trailering pack and I don't even have a trailer - is it really the 'smart' buy?

That's why I come down on the side of the K2x: It will offer standard on the WT many of the things that now only come standard on the LT/SLE like the six gauge instrument panel and power locks (and maybe windows - I thought there was no way NOT to get pwr windows on the Silvy, but GMC seems to offer roll up - will have to investigate more). Then there is a standard 6pd and 300hp engine - a drivetrain that goes for $1700 this year albeit with an extra 15hp.

Conclusion: Buying more than what you want because it's cheap is not really a bargain.

If you can live with the interior and the existing option list, it's a no brainer. Unfortunately I couldn't (should note I was looking at Sierra and Yukon Denali's earlier this year). Mechanically; however, I have no issues with the 900's.

If I could have had the 6.2 in a standard cab 4x4 (haha, like that would ever happen), then I might have had to just deal with the interior.

You are insane for even thinking about leaving a Ram for an outdated rag like the current Silverado. No amount of money would get me out of mine for one of them. I wanted to trade mine for the K2XX, but I will have to do alot of test driving and work hard to fall in love with the interior before then. I also need to see the price and the hp/tq numbers. I love my HEMI and the price for the power can't be beat by anything GM has.

Buy to each their own. I just think you will be disappointed.
    Get used to more.

I think a base RC shortbed would be a nice ride, if the price is reasonable.

If you're not happy with your purchase, it doesn't really matter how great a "deal" it was. Your wallet will never convince your a**.

Mine is an ST with only the SiriusXM radio and the Hemi. It's a dragster! But it would be nice having little things like power locks and windows (it's process to unlock the pass door where I have to lift the center seatback/armrest to get to it). The thing is, I've 'grown accustomed to her face' to quote from My Fair Lady. Or more specifically, the 390hp.

I was more curious how others felt. Especially if, for example, you want an EC 8ft - you will not be able to get that on the '14. I will likely keep the '10 Ram another two years and then spring for a K2x, God willing and if the river don't rise.

One thing people are missing in the debate about Silvy not having a super lux model vs. Ford is that the baseline models will see massive improvement: 50% more power, 50% more gears - WT2 will be essentially what the LT is now, sans rub strip. Even if the price goes up to $24,999, it will be a bargain compared to today's LT - at least in terms of MSRP if not actual transaction price.

The connectivity and technology upgrades/updates in the K2XX are significant enough that I wouldn't be likely to upgrade my current truck to another GMT900 at this point; right now the big question for me is how long I can hold out to get a new one, because I know as soon as they come out and I get my hands on one, the itch will start.

I wish chevy was putting those huge truck incentives on the tahoes. I'd be all over a $40k LS if it was 29k. but at about $37k or so it doesn't do much for me.
