GM Truck Rumors
Here's what I have been hearing lately:
3.9L pushrod V-6 to replace the 4.3L V-6. Next generation Colorado/Canyon to spawn an SUV to replace the Trail Blazer/Envoy. Next generation full size trucks coming in 2011 (GMT 1000?). Sorry, no details. Tahoe/Yukon to be phased out, no word on Escalade. GM-Navistar deal on Topkick and Kodiak will eventually result in a wider variety of trucks for GMC/Chevy commercial dealers, including a new 4500 series to be shared with International. More hybrid/flex fuel/diesel, but you knew that. |

Re: GM Truck Rumors
I hope the colorado/canyon doesn't get any bigger. When will we see the new model?

Re: GM Truck Rumors
Certainly anything is possible, but I'm not sure there is much gain in fuel economy. Certainly not enough to offset the significantly less robust engine design.

MCE? Seems too soon for a full redesign.

Re: GM Truck Rumors
Maybe they will give it a significant sheetmetal re-do, six speed transmissions, more powerful engines, and an updated frame....much like Ford is doing to the current F150.
So that more than an MCE, but not quite a completely new truck. I'd hope they at least keep the powertrains updated. Quote:
The Escalade should gain some off road credentials, so it would be easier to keep it on the same chassis as the Suburban and Tahoe. The lambdas are going to steal their sales from the soccer moms...but you still have people that want or need a real SUV, and GM will have to keep them in mind when designing new trucks. Re: GM Truck Rumors
Colorado et al are GMT-700. The H4 will also be on this platform.
GMT-900 runs until 2012 (2013 is the new trucks), see UAW contract.

Re: GM Truck Rumors
The entire Land Rover line up was originally intended to be off-road. They were Europe's Jeep in a way. They evolved into something more luxurious. The Escalade is the exact ooposite of that.

Re: GM Truck Rumors
Some of that is interesting to say the least, some seems plain wrong but what do I know.

I have a hard time visualizing a "Z-71 off road" truck off road. With less than 10 inches of ground clearance, pathetic approach and departure angles and that ridiculous in no way does it belong on a truck plastic airdam. They need to build a real truck for real truck guys. They have every configuration possible except for an off road capable model. First they need a IFS version like the Nissan Titan for those who need versatility. 11 inches of clearance with 285's from the factory. They could even go a little larger on the tire. Better approach and departure angles.(The Titan's approach angle is TWICE what a four wheel drive GM is right now) Get rid of the air dam and put a skidplate on the front. Then for those that are really hardcore make a Power Wagon competitor that is not quite so bulky. Maybe a half ton size with 3/4 ton running gear with the 6.2 and baby DMAX as an option. That of course would require GM to use a SFA which they obviously do not have in their lineup. The virtues of a SFA for a truck, especially a heavy duty, are well known. This is my wish list for GM. I think there are plenty of other people out there like me who are not casual truck owners. We want a truck, not a Ridgeline, not a Denali XT, but a real, bonafide truck. ![]() |
