GM Supcompact truck

Why not bring the theory of cars to trucks? GM does not just have the Cobalt to sale to those interested in a smaller car, but rather a Cobalt and an Aveo, the Aveo being a lighter and more fuel efficient version.

That said, why does GM not adopt this with the trucks? Why not keep the colorado/canyon the way they are and build a 'subcompact' to supplement it. With the subcompact you could appeal to those who want only a pickup bed and the increased capabilty that it brings. Work would be minimal, and towing would be non existent. Those represent the drawbacks but you could build this thing on a unit body platform with a compact desiel. Do we hear 50mpg?

Also, you can drop in price considerably so as to appeal to more. Will it be as capable a truck as a colorado or a full size, heck no! But it will be a big advantage over a subcompact with the pickup bed.

Whose with me in this. Give me some feed back on rather or not this would work. Thanks in advance and please post

Re: GM Supcompact truck

I would love a small pickup like the S10 or even smaller, but i would want a 350hp+ v8 in it.

Re: GM Supcompact truck

Wouldn't it be great if the HHR grew a truck bed? I mean, eliminate the back doors and put a small bed on it. Use the Non-turbo 2.0 DI engine and you have a compact pickup that's quick to bring to market.

Chevy has the Tornado in Mexico and Brazil.

I don't know why it isn't sold here but I would bet it might show up in the next couple of years.

I'm not sure a fwd truck would be a good idea.

I'd like to see a platform slightly bigger than kappa with coupe, wagon/hatch, and a pickup. This will never happen though.

Yeah, front wheel drive is a definite draw back. Rear wheels is more versatile and more adequete for a truck

Good point!

WE'll have to wait until Alpha comes out then.

Actually, this would be a pretty good way to differentiate a Chevy Alpha from a Pontiac Alpha. Pontiac is Car, after all, so give the Bowtie brand a small RWD car-based pickup. What does anyone think of this idea?

Re: GM Supcompact truck

I think it would sale and sale well. Especially if GM could get 30mpg or so out of it. That would very appealing. Might start a new trend where everybody has to have a micro pickup. Listen up GM, you might want to give this one a try

We need one of you who have the photo shop to make us an example of what we are talking about just for fun.

That's what I was thinking before I ever opened this thread. It seems any car based anything (or new product lately) has to be cleared with some other country or car company first.

I think it is an excellent idea. Throw in a BAS+ hybrid system to bump the mileage up even higher.
