Are GM HD trucks going to start competing with Ford HD trucks

With the new Ford Super Duty info coming out now , is GM ever going to actually start competing with Ford in the heavy duty truck segment ? according to pickuptruck.com Ford has 50 % or more of the HD truck market and Dodge sells more HD trucks than Chevrolet this is sad . even with the iffy Ford diesel engines the past few years Ford cleans GMs and Dodges clock in HD truck sales . .

Re: Are GM HD trucks going to start competing with Ford HD trucks

I use my truck as a truck, mostly for snow plowing.

GM's drop down frame under the cab, is reason enough for me to buy a Super Duty, over a GM. A fellow lake plower, dropped through the slush ice on the lake last year, in his GM Duramax. causing over $2000 damage. Fuel Filter, Fuel Heater, Tranny Fliter, front axle, and lower control arm.

No, the crew cab 1-ton trucks carried over till 1990ish with the old body style and SFA. The K3500 big block crew cab dually IS the reason you see the Superduty today.

Re: Are GM HD trucks going to start competing with Ford HD trucks

A GM 6.0 gasser will run circles around a Ford 5.4 anyday of the week.

Check out www.tow411.com and see what they are buying for tow trucks
and rollbacks as of late. NOT GM diesels or Fords of either power plant.

Too bad GM was late to the party with 4wd Topkick/Kodiacs and just
killed them all off!

Well, yeah...

The 5.4 is okay, not great, but the 6.0 is freaking awesome. The 6.0 and 6.4 power joke and power failure have done severe damage to the power stroke name, so the Scorpion should be a marked improvement. Many of the design flaws of the 6.0/6.4 have been addressed.

I seriously doubt if GM is going to redesign their HD truck chassis. Maybe they will and I hope they will, but I'm not holding my breath. Most of the communication that has come from GM, both officially and unofficially has been that the HD chassis will be status quo for some time.

The GM-IFS is pretty lousy, especially compared to the HD Dodge and Ford. Lousy ball joints in the Dana not withstanding, the chassis dynamics of the competition are very good.

V- model Blazers, Suburbans and 3500 crew cab pickups and chassis cabs had a SFA through 1991.
The Blazers and Suburbans had corporate 8.5 10 bolts while the K3500s had Dana 60s. All had glorious leaf springs.

Yeah, me too. The problem is that they keep denying it and there haven't been any large number of mules seen. It is possible they they have been disguised, but the sources that I have are steadfastly denying any SFA plans. Yes, I did see a red Dodge 2500 pull out of the DPG, before it closed, with Michigan manufacturer plates, loaded with instruments, and head north on Ellsworth Rd in Mesa. However, I never saw another before they closed. Which is ironic since I saw a ton of GMT900s prior to their release.

It wont be what we're talking about. A refreshed front-end does not = SFA, no matter how snazzy that chrome plastic looks lol.

Re: Are GM HD trucks going to start competing with Ford HD trucks

As far as GMs so called piss-poor IFS set up and the other guys "superior" straight axle set ups take a trip over to www.letstalksnow.com/forms or plowsite.com and see the guys who are crying about front end repairs!

It sure ain't the GM guys ! I have been dragging around a snowplow on my GM IFS trucks since the GMT-400s came out in 88 and not a issue yet!

Not to mention the IFS trucks drive like a dream!

Re: Are GM HD trucks going to start competing with Ford HD trucks

Irrespective of the SFA argument , GM needs to do some market research as to why Ford decimates them in HD sales , if GM isn't able to or incapable of competing then they are doomed to asking for government handouts in perpetuity .

Re: Are GM HD trucks going to start competing with Ford HD trucks

GM needs to design all brand new trucks from the ground up period. I love their new cars and crossovers, I really do. In the end though, the most important long term purchase for me is my truck. I've been holding out forever to get a new Chevrolet truck. I thought with the GMT900 I'd finally feel comfortable dropping 40 grand down on a truck that was 'Worth it'. The GM trucks(IMO) are simply not worth it. The looks, the stance, the cheap base interior, the durability, build quality... on and on... GM needs to go purchase a new F-150 and a new Ford SuperDuty. Bring them inside and let engineers and designers look at how a real truck should be built. Then build the damn thing once and for all. Kill the competition. I was watching a rodeo advertisement on tv and Everything in the arena was 'Built Ford Tough'. Ford this, Ford that... C'mon GM! Get with it. You guys could make a killing building the best trucks money can buy, yet you refuse to do it? WHY?
