    EcoTec3 4.3 vs Vortec 4.3

Will we ever hear how many similarities (if any?) exist between the new EcoTec3 4.3 and outgoing Vortec 4.3? Namely I wonder if they will have similar dimensions and perhaps engine mounts so an EcoTec3 could be swapped into an older Vortec 4.3 truck. Assuming the computer issues can be worked out, of course. An all-aluminum AFM VVT DI 4.3 would make for an awesome swap into an S10.

Why wouldn't you just swap an LS based V8 into an S10? Wouldn't that be easier? That said, EcoTec3 is a terrible name. Ugh.

I spoke with the lead engineer of the 4.3L. She insisted there are no similarities other than the displacement.

Any info on output or fuel efficiency?

My guess would be about 300 horsepower/300 lb-ft of torque. Looks like they targeted it to replace the 4.8.

No info about power or efficiency, but it's going to be used as the base motor for more than just a work truck variant. Like the Gen V vs Gen IV, there is very little carried over from one engine to the other. With the old 4.3 based on the Gen I 350cu engine, there is absolutely nothing shared outside of the displacement number.

I'd say that 300hp would be an easy guess considering that the 3.6 makes over that with similar tech. I'd say that 295/310 rating with a 25mpg rating.
I'd say 370 for the 5.3 and 410-420 for the 6.2. That's just my guess.

RAM surprised many when it offered a 3.6L V6 in their 2wd, offering 25MPG highway. But I would not expect the 4.3L Eco to top that. Something like 16/23 mpg is where I think it'll land.

I'm guessing 290,360,430 horsepower with significant increases in torque under the curve.

Won't it still be kind of heavy for it?

Also all the new Gen V engines take 0W-20. Last I checked, thats only available in full synthetic.

Given how well modified LS engines take to boost, I wonder what kind of power a twin turbo 4.3 would make? Might make for an interesting truck/musclecar motor. It would probably package well, be reasonably light, and make a bunch of power.

That would be a perfect choice for that car. More compact, lighter, cheaper, and probably more torque than the 3.6.

Maybe I'm being a litte optimistic...

    Eng Hp Trq Mpg

    4.3 290 300 18/26

Correct me if Im wrong, but until the GEN 5 motor the 4.3 did not get any of the previous GEN 3 or 4 updates. I believe you are going to see a significant gain in MPG with this motor not to mention hp and trq. The engine mounts the 4.3L use are now common with the v8's. So in theory the knew 4.3L should be able to bolt into a gen 4 v8 engine bay.
