Lots of rumors, no official news yet. One rumor is there will be 4500 and 5500 cab and chassis version of the 2014 Silverado and Sierra HD's. Back in January, another GM enthusiast website reported that GM was working on a new larger medium duty that would be similar to the 2003-2009 Kodiak and Topkick. They are very sure that this truck is on the way, but not for a few more years yet. My guess is IF both of these rumors are true, we might see a 4500 and 5500 based on the HD pickups, and 6500 and 7500 trucks based on the larger medium duty.

I was told some time ago that the 2011 HD IFS was designed for 4500 and 5500 class trucks.

Don't I wish... I could have a Real off road machine with a Bowtie badge on the front again. Stick with the Old Chevy trucks or buy a Ford or Ram I guess..

I think this discussion is about medium duty commercial trucks anyway. GM's new IFS is a lot better than what they had in the past. I think that if GM does introduce 4500 and 5500 versions of the Silverado and Sierra, it is just about certain they will use the 2011 HD IFS on them.

A 4500 or 5500 more around the size of the F550 or Ram 5500 would be great! I am going to buy a truck around that size when I am done paying off my backhoe and I have been looking the Ram 5500 but would much rather have a chevy or GMC 5500!

The HD's are supposed to be introduced in late 2013. Hopefully 4500 and 5500 cab and chassis models will be part of the line up.

No SFA. The market isn't there and besides, converting the F450/550 loyalists to a SFA GM truck isn't really worth the costs.

F450 sized DANA or similar Eaton axles are are snap to fit in the HD chassis. The front torsion bars are 6k, so a heavier front suspension isn't a necessity.
Since a 4500/5500 pickup-based truck wouldn't be that tough for GM to develop, if there is a market, count on it.

If I were a betting man, I'd look for modified front sheet metal to fit the larger 19.5" rims and tires, 2 stage leafs and a HD axle with dual rear wheels and a longer wheel base.

Well, if Mark Reuss' recent comments are to be believed (and no reason they shouldn't be) we may see the 'black hole' 4500/5500 versions of the Silverado/Sierra before too much longer, probably after the 2015 HD line is rolled out. Have to wonder if the major expansion and renovation of the Flint Truck assembly plant's paint operations was not done at least in part to accommodate larger commercial trucks.

Or they could be built in Janesville again.

Janesville is a big mystery. I have heard (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) that other recently closed plants like Shreveport were part of Motors Liquidation, and were never owned by post-backruptcy GM. However, Janesville, although it has been closed since 2009, is still owned by GM. I hear rumors that Janesville was considered for full size van production at one time, but Express/Savanna production is staying at Wentzville even though Wentzville will also be building the new Colorado/Canyon.

Janesville built medium duty trucks for 12 years, and if you count the Isuzu NPR/GM W series almost 19 years. Just a guess but maybe Janesville could be the home of a GM/Isuzu commercial truck joint venture.

    Hopefully you are right.

GM exiting this market was a foolish decision. It came back incredibly fast after the recession...and they had no products to offer.
