6.2L (Max trailer package) - Is AFM slated for it?

    Hi All,

Is AFM slated for the 6.2L (Max trailering Package)? Or is that 5.3L only? Will the HD Gassers get AFM or no?

Will AFM disappear, sorta like a fad??

According to my resources, Active Fuel Management will only be offered on the 5.3L engine for the 2011 model year.

Thank you. I hope to buy a 6.2 Max trailer package, without AFM. Will it ever make it in the Max trailer package? From what I have heard, AFM is not what it is made up to be

Yet another reason why I wanted the Yukon XL SLT with the 6.2L L9H...it didn't have AFM like the Denali version does for 2010 and up.

Ya the 6.2 doesnt have AFM in any model. But it should. Ive had it in my 07 6.0 Max Trailer Package for 3 years and its worked flawlessly. I hope the Gen V small blocks all have it standard. Along with VVT, DI, and every other new gas engine tech out there.

How has your oil consumption been? No lifter issues?

Oil consumption? I get my oil changed every 5-6000 Miles according to the oil life monitor. No issues with anything, I have 40,000 miles on it. People are always scared of new technology... GM would not have put it in their small blocks if it was going to be an issue. If your worried about it, all the power programmers out there can turn that feature off.

Sounds like these forums seem to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

If you shut it off, would you have to change the lifters? I do my oil changes @ 6,500 miles also, has been great.

Is the mileage noticeable with it on/off? Much gain? Sounds like a great idea to me.

There is no need to ever change anything mechanically. If you buy a power programmer, like the diablo sport tuner etc... it just turns the feature off in your trucks ECM.

If you were to keep the feature on, When AFM turns on, I get 5+ or more instant MPG according to the DIC. Like if I'm on the freeway doing 75, when Im in V8 mode itll be about 18 MPG, if AFM turns on it'll sit around 22/23 MPG. On a long trip that would be alot of savings in gas. In city driving it mainly turns on every time Im coasting, to a stop or maintaining even speed.

AFM needs to be put in every small block V8 GM makes as far as I'm concerned. But like I said before.. it is not in the GEN IV 6.2l.
