Question 4x4, v4 trucks

I am looking for information/advise to purchase a used/new truck, 4x4, v4 engine. I am very naive about trucks and have never owned one. I have been advised to try to find a 4x4, v4. Any suggestions on years, reliability, etc?

Re: 4x4, v4 trucks

I don't know of any truck with a V4.

Try looking for an inline 4
Tacoma and Colorado are probalby the most reliable. Colorado is rating highest reliablity on CR.

Re: 4x4, v4 trucks

If you really want a 4x4 with a 4-cylinder, look at some older S10s and Rangers. Most 4x4 were sold with the 6 option, but some had the smaller engines. I know, my dad has one.

Re: 4x4, v4 trucks

Thank you all for your input. I will look at Toyot Tacomas, Chev Colorados, and older Chev S-10s and Ford Rangers. The challenge will be to find something that is "ecellent condition, excellent price".

Re: 4x4, v4 trucks

is there a reason you need a 4 cylinder? Finding an older S10 4x4 with the Vortec 4.3 is not hard at all. Those are some tough little trucks and I bet you could find a good condition one for $3-4K.

Re: 4x4, v4 trucks

the colorado is available with the 4 cyl engine. The tacoma is not- you have to get the V6 that runs on premium gas.

I recommend the Colorado- the new 4 seems to be fairly powerful.

Not sure if the Ranger has a 4cyld 4wd version to offer

It's not a truck... and many wouldn't recommend it... but I sure like the Chevy Tracker / Suzuki Sidekick.

No once you check the Ranger's 4x4 box, the only engine avalible is the 4.0L V6. Not even the 3.0L V6 is a choice
