2014 GM 2500/3500HD Truck Updates and Spec Tracker

I'd like to start a post that focuses on the next 2500/3500 HD. The intent of this thread is a one stop source of substantiated info, and not a chest pounding forum to argue about competition. All the info I have is they are getting a new bodystyle. There is rumor of a larger displacement gas engine. I'm guessing a 6.2L. That's about all I have. Anyone else have substantiated info from any decent source? Thanks in advance.

That's about all there is at this time. The chassis will be carryover 2011, and the trucks will go on sale sometime in 2014 as 2015 models.

Good idea for a thread, I hope it stays on track!

Re: 2014 GM 2500/3500HD Truck Updates and Spec Tracker

Is there any info that would indicate that the 6.2l would likely replace the 6.0l? It seems silly to me that there are 2 seperate engines so similar in displacement. My understanding is that the 6.0 is an iron block while the 6.2 is aluminum. Is it feasible for the 6.2l to replace the 6.0l as a hd type of engine?

Re: 2014 GM 2500/3500HD Truck Updates and Spec Tracker

The commercial sales manager that I buy trucks from says that the new HD trucks will be getting a massaged 6.0 but not a 6.2L

Not sure if its true, but thats what he is telling. I have a 6.0L 2012 2500HD. Its an impressive gas engine and this is coming from a guy that has never owned anything HD that had spark plugs before. I look at the Ford 6.2L and it has a little more hp and torque, but does not get any better MPG and makes its power at a higher rpm than even the 6.0L. Perhaps with DI that can help perk up the 6.0 and at least on paper match the Ford product. Honestly I believe the answer is through the use of a turbo charger, with a larger displacement than the ECO Boost and built to handle the applications that are indicative of HD applications.

I would be surprised to see an upgraded 6.0, but that's just because all of the juicy details have been kept hush-hush (even on the 1500s). The only thing I could think of as far as improvements would be to add direct injection in addition to revising the intake & cylinder heads to fall in line with the Gen 5 half-tons. That could yield them 390-400HP & 420 lb.-ft. I've heard rumors about a larger displacement engines for years, but it was thought that it would be a 7.0. Remember this? http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/11...eavy-duty.html

Photos of the 3500 out testing:

I imagine it will look just like the 1500, but a few features will be enlarged to give it that HD look. I expect to see exposed frame on the sides, a bigger crossbar on the Silverado, and probably a taller bumper/lower grille area.

^^^^Few features will be enlarged?! Take a look at the person behind the wheel...he looks like a kid in comparison to the truck size. I'd bet that it'll be bigger than the Ford Super Duty.

I think bvonscott has mentioned several times that the 2014 2500 HD's (new K2xx body style) will be out late Q3 or early Q4 of this year

    lol.. Good lord.

The new truck will be same same truck you can buy now. As Always, I invite every last one of you to take measurements on frames and underlying parts.... You'll get new sheetmetal, a new interior and a few more HP out of the direct injected SBC. I have my "inside sources" too. Real ones. After his stunt he pulled last year I got back into the GM fold of Old. This guy is clueless.

Ok FOD, so do your sources indicate the 2014 (K2xx) 2500 HD's (with the new 1500 exterior and interior they have been showing off) will hit the lots before the end of this year? I'm ok with the current duramax configuration, just want the new interior and sheetmetal. Can you also check with your sources to see if they'll have power extending and folding side mirrors for the trailering packages..

That is my understanding, production is not scheduled to start until around this time next year. And for that reason I think we should rename the title of the thread from "2014" to "2015".

Alright boys. as you know I am anxious to get into the new truck, but can't stomach the current interior, so I'll wait, unless of course they pull a Z/28 on us and surprised us with early production and availability.

If there's time before the new model is revealed, GM please relocate the DEF tank above the lower frame line and out of site. If the 2014/2015 has the new body, new interior, a more powerful gas engine, a relocated DEF for the Dmax, then you'll have a great truck. I also agree with the other members that new tow mirrors need to be in the mix for the new body. Chrome power telescoping with marker lamp, turn signal, blind zone alert, curb lighting, and defrost would be premium and definitely LTZ/Denali worthy.

GM did the same thing with the 800-900 trucks for the HD's. Chassis got updated and then then next model year gave it the new body. So far, the pattern is the same.
