Ah, the old Astro van engine. I really hope so. It is nothing but a cut down version of the old Vortec 5700( damn good engine, my mom's GMC Classic 1500 4x4 is equipped with it, 104k miles with no unexpected trouble, still a front line hauler for her horses even 10 years later) Can't beat that push rod setup either. I hope that they will replace it with another push rod engine if they do. No reason, just a personal preference.

IMO, the 4.3 should have made it to the Colorado at least as an option. I love my Vortec 2900 as it pumps out ample power and returns great mileage. But with every other competitor in the market having a V6, it would seem to make sense that GM would put one out there to attract those who do not jump for the 3700 I5, as it is a bit different with 5 cylinders. What better motor to put in the Colorado then the cheap, simple Vortec 4300?

I went from an 03 Sonoma with a 4.3 to an 07 Canyon with a 3.7 and I gotta say, I like the 3.7 better. Both trucks were CrewCab 4x4s with Automatics.
I don't think it is worth going backwards to the 4.3 unless the cost saveings for the buyer is huge. I think that the 4.2 I6 would have been a great engine option for these trucks had packageing not been an issue. I also feel that if the bore and headwork that was done to turn the old 3.5 into the current 3.7(as well as the old 2.8 into the current 2.9) was added to the 4.2 you would see a new 4.4L I6 monster.

The trailblazer's engine would be a great addition to the Colorado as the 3700 and the 2900 are nothing but a 4200 chopped down minus a cylinder or two( Atlas family ). I like the thought of updating the 4200 the same way they did the 3500 and 2800. I could live with those results

What are the chances that the Colorado will ever get a 6 cylinder? I am excited about the Vortec 5300 coming this model year. But as far as mileage goes, wouldn't a 6 cylinder that gets good mileage make sense too?

That sucks, but is it available at least on the extended cab, or only the crew cab? I can't remember if it was posted in another thread but I'm not feeling ambitious enough to search

The I6 4200 really has no advantage over a 5.3 vortec imo. Mpg is essentially the same, despite the fact that it happens to have 2 less cylinders. Also, I would guess its no lighter and no cheaper to make.

Lots of new for the 2009 Chevy. I assume the lt1 seats are gone. Which is what I currently have. Hopefully no more lint.

It's actually a bit more expensive than the 5.3L. None of the Atlas engines are cheap.

Some photos of a 09 Tahoe on Autotrader.com

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/img_po...6&photoIndex=0

New Chrome trim on doors

New rear bumper w/chrome trim and hitch cover

Chrome trim on shifter

A/C Seats

And a 2009 Z71. I think the door handles and mirrors are different, now body colored. A nice improvement if you ask me.
