Toyota lets you get their 381-hp 5.7L V-8 and 6-speed on a base regular cab (of course, Tundra regular cab only comes with a long bed). I bet the new Ram will let you get the 380-hp Hemi and 5-speed on every model like they do now. GM has the most powerful engine available in a half-ton, but continues to insist on handicapping their models because of a perceived hierarchy.
SO FRICKEN TYPICAL FOR GM. THIS SH** REALLY PISSES ME OFF.

Re: 2009 Chevrolet Trucks Official Changes

GMT 360's getting Bluetooth.

It is the new OnStar system, because there is no way it would go into those cars.

So I guess now I have to see how I can get a Generation 8.0 OnStar Module in my Corvette, and get the new Steering Wheel and what wiring needs to be done form the wheel to the OnStar Module.

Hopefully GM is smart enough and offers a Generation 8.0 upgrade to all Generation 7.0 cars.

You can get the 6.2/6 in LTZ Extended Cab.
In that same section of the Model Information:

Quote:

NEW!
Engine, Vortec 6.2L V8 SFI E85-compatible,
FlexFuel, capable of running on unleaded or up to 85%
ethanol (403 hp [300.5 kW] @ 5700 rpm, 417 lb-ft of
torque [565.4 N-m] @ 4300 rpm)
1 - Requires C*10543 models and (Z71) Off-Road
Suspension Package or (S83) 4 - 20" x 8.5" (50.8 cm x 21.6
cm) chrome clad aluminum wheels. Not available with (NHT)
Max Trailering Pack.

C*10543 models are crew cab models (CC10543 is 2WD, CK10543 is 4WD).

Also, if you look further down in the Engine/Axle sections, you can see that the 6.2L is only listed for crew cabs.

Re: 2009 Chevrolet Trucks Official Changes

Looks like Crew Cab gets 6-speed for most V8's. On the Extended Cab only the largest V8 gets the 6-speed.

Regular Cab gets left out. I'd imagine this again has to do with capacity. I'd expect 2010, if not 2009 1/2 to have the whole range be 6-speed.

Dear god, the Equinox soldiers on with that archaic, slow, raspy 3.4 V6!!!! It drove like crap when I had one FOUR years ago! Yes, you can move up to the Sport with the 3.6 (the only 'Nox worth having) but that means all of the other trim levels remain at a competitive disadvantage. I always though it was a shame that the vehicle was so handsome but so unpleasant to drive or ride in.

The 3.4L in our Torrent sounds like crap, but it has more than enough power, decent responce and is pretty smooth. It's not that bad. I do wish the GXP and Equinox Sport's 3.6L was an option on the other models because the sport suspension is very harsh for a family car.

Re: 2009 Chevrolet Trucks Official Changes

I don't see where the six speed auto is standard on the Tahoe. I know it's available if you get the LTZ with the 6.2, but unless I'm mis-reading the list I don't see the six speed auto offered with the 4.8 or 5.3.

But standard six speed automatic on the Avalanche, half ton Suburban, and at least some of the trucks is a good move.

GM should have the six speed autos across the board just in time for the competition to start making them obsolete with more dual electronic clutch transmissions (like in some Audi models, and in the upcoming Ford Powershift transmissions). But at least the four speeds are really starting to disappear.

It may be included with the new engine packages so the explicit option is no longer required?? Every GM vehicle I've ever had has a block heater included, but then none have been 4 cyl.

6-speed seems to come with all models except the 2WD LS.

Really though, I agree with you...it's a solid truck but it's getting long in the tooth. At least the tow rating is up this year. Maybe it will go up even more with the 5.3L engine.

If there was a crew cab with an optional 6.5' box then I'd be happy (and likely standing in line with my cheque book!).

Thanks.

I wonder what the real world fuel economy of the Tahoe, Silverado, and Avalanche will be now that they have the 6 speed.
