    1992 Chevrolet Silverado Towing Capacity

Hi, I was wondering what the max. towing capacity of a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado Extended Cab 2-wheel drive is, as my father just bought one to haul the family camper. The truck has the 5.7L 350 V8, bone stock. The trailer is a 26 ft. long 5th wheel, which weighs approximately 7,000 pounds. Will the truck haul this trailer? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

    I am assuming this is a 1500 C?

I'd be most concerned with the pin weight. Even though I have no idea what your tow rating is, you can easily find out what your truck's payload capacity. Take the GVWR # on the door plate, and subtract the real world weight of your truck (going to a scale is the best, most accurate way). That will give you your total payload. Your pin weight + cargo (camping gear) + people + anything inside the truck MUST be less than that total payload number.

I think 7k lbs is doable, but that large surface area of a 5th wheel is going to really suck down the fuel, and you're going to spent a lot of time in lower gears.

No problem! What kind of driving do you plan mostly? Long trips, or close to the house? Flats or mountains?

Well, the journey we're planning on now is approximately 300 miles. Not too bad - about 5 hours. The terrain is certainly not flat; there are hills here and there, but nothing major. There is one big hill that I can think of right now that may be a problem. It's a climb of about 400-500 ft. in around 1 mile. But that's the only major hill that comes to mind.
