04 Crew Cab Rim Size Problem

I have been looking into buying some nicer rims (20's or 22's) and tires for my 04 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Z71. I went to Discount Tire and they told me that they would not put anything higher than an 18" rim on my truck because that year of Crew Cab (04) had a problem when you upgraded to a larger rim. It apparantly would cause the suspension to bend because there needed to be an additional support bracket installed. The factory caught this and fixed it for the 05's and newer. They would sell me the rims and tires, mount and balance them but would not put them on the truck. If it was a reg cab or extended cab they would do it right away, but not the crew cab. I called around to 3 different dealerships and they had not heard of this. Anyone ever heard of this happening on the 04 Crew Cabs?

This is correct....We are the Accessory Distributor for GM in Houston...GM would not allow 20" upgrade wheels on crew cabs until mid year 2006...The issue is more than a support bracket....

What is the issue? I have heard the suspension cannot handle it and brakes cannot handle it either. Any truth to this?
