Re: What's your ideal Caddy lineup?
My ideal Caddy lineup....is pretty much the current lineup! Update the Escalade and give it a unique interior that doesn't look like a Tahoe, and make a better DTS than what's been spied so far....otherwise, I love Caddy's lineup.

Re: Your Ideal Cadillac Lineup!
I like mgescuro's lineup except I would merge the D-Class with the F-Class and would seriously hesitate calling them by "(blank)-Class"; it sounds way too Mercedes-ish.
The CTS needs to be slightly smaller than the current vehicle. It needs a coupe option and a convertible option. It needs more engine options, up and down from the 3.6, to maintain affordability for those who want to live out of their means and seek the status of a luxury car and for those who want more gut but don't want a V. The V needs the 7.0L from the '06 Z06. The XLR needs more options and color choices to add to the exclusivity. It needs a V-12 option. No more FWD. Period. If the snow-belt cries, let them buy AWD. The Eldorado should be brought back but only as a very pricey 2-door, hardtop convertible version based on the chassis of the STS or full-size (I hesitate to say DTS, as the current DTS is, IMO, exactly what Cadillac shouldn't be making). The CL Mercedes and new 6-Series BMW would be appropriate competitors and standards for the new Eldo. The DTS should be a full-size RWD squared directly against the 7-Series, S-Class, A8, Phaeton, XJ, etc. The "traditional" luxury car role filled by the current DTS can be met by Buick. The Escalade can be played up and hyped for the coming 2007 generational model but should take a developmental back-seat beyond that period unless a more efficient, yet equally powerful, engine can be devised as the era of cheap gasoline seems to have passed. Wait, what am I saying...? Development? Ha, ha, ha. I forgot that all you need to make an Escalade is a Tahoe and a few different body panels. Nevermind. The market is already swinging back towards large cars instead of large SUVs. An ultra-luxury vehicle in the range of the Maybachs, Rolls-Royces, and Bentleys would be slick but that's a tiny niche with an awful lot of existing competition. Any new entrant into the field has to be neck-and-shoulders above the rest. Mercedes did their best to do just that with the Maybach. So sad we'll never anything like that lineup, mgescuro. GM hasn't the money or the foresight to reach that deep into the luxury market. Last edited by 68CoupeDeVille : 03-22-2005 at 05:10 PM. |

Re: Your Ideal Cadillac Lineup!
Cadillac needs to ADD models
A V-12 SEDAN Cadillac needs a V-12 sedan to gain attention of the very high income set. A V-12 SPORTS CAR Cadillac should build the CIEN, to compete with the McClaren F-1 and to make the dumb dumb Acura NSX freaks shut up once and for all. A MID SIZE SUV Cadillac needs a Midsize SUV. They are missing sales which are going to Lexus on the midsize SUV. Some who like SUV's feel the Escalade size is a big too much for them. Maybe something along the lines of the Buick Rendezvous with a V-8. A SMALLER ROADSTER Cadillac needs a smaller Roadster that is less expensive than the XLR. BRING THE BLS TO USA The EURO Cadillac BLS should come to the US to compete with the BMW 325.

Re: Your Ideal Cadillac Lineup!
Here's something perverse that I want to see: a Cadillac OHV engine, highest possible tech, something that would really impress the world. Give it enough titanium bits that it can spin with the best OHC engines. Give it really sophisticated DOD. Give it . . . I dunno, something that will totally knock the world's sox off. Make it light weight. Make it really efficient. Make it torquey as all get out. Make it a real statement of an engine.
And theoretically, it should be economical to do this, given that OHCs are supposed to be so dramatically more expensive to build. (I keep hearing $800 a copy more. I have no idea if that's true.) Do that, and then reap the rewards as it forms a halo over all of the other fine OHVs that GM is cranking out. If that one engine is good enough (remember: no one is complaining about the LS2, and OHV's are required in a certain racing class), it could be a real breakthough for GM in general, and Cadillac in particular. I keep fantasizing that the delay on the Northstar II is happening not because GM is out of cash, but because they're doing just what I've proposed here. OK, I'm dreaming. |

A FWD or AWD BLS will never, ever compete with the 3-series. Cadillac would just a get an embarrasing black eye from trying to do that. Don't even think about it. Now, a really sharp little Kappa with a nice little V6, dramatic, beautiful bodywork an a gorgeous interior . . . now that's a great idea. |

Re: Your Ideal Cadillac Lineup!
Ya... there's a reason why in mine I didn't let the BRX and BLS come stateside... and another why I haven't created a BLR or something along those lines... the CTS/SRX is the lowest I'm willing to let Caddy go... Saturn has the lower-ring luxury/entry sport-luxury vehicles...

Re: Your Ideal Cadillac Lineup!
Their current lineup is fine I'll just add
kill BLS, a fast and a sudden death next CTS a bit smaller bit still larger than a BMW 3-Series all V-Series Cadillacs would get the LS7 instead of the SC 4.4 Northstar The next DTS will come in FWD and AWD as an option All Cadillacs will have AWD as an option All Cadillacs will come in a V-Series except DTS and Escalades, the top model Escalades will get an LS7 but wont be considered a V Add the ULS targetd at the 7-er and S-Class, with LS7 V8 and an 8.75 V10 version of the LS7 Cadillac LaSalle targeted at RollsRoyce and Bentley with a 12.5 V12 version of the LS7..

Otherwise, sounds pretty decent... I was never really for the BTS, but for Caddy to work in Europe, it needs it.. I just wish it had been RWD, but since it isn't, standard AWD and bigger engines are required. :p
