I dont know if it was posted here or not, but if it was I think it is worth reading again now that we have the official confirmation of XTS coming to Detroit.

Re: Xts
Quite complimentary.
It's interesting looking back that the Granite isn't mentioned. This presumably is something else: Quote:

Re: Xts
I hope this car is a TRUE full size and a looker. Caddy needs this car badly.

![]() ![]() As for the XTS, I hope it's a home run. Cadillac and GM really need it. Personally, if I won the lottery right now, the big status car, I'd get is the new 7-Series BMW. I'm hoping the XTS can take that spot.

You have heard it said since birth "You get what you pay for" this while not always true is very relevant in cars. The mechanicals blend differently, as those in the Cadillac generally come from lower cost brands (with the exception of the NorthStar engine). My first week of ownership of the CLS, I took a run to a RE symposium in San Diego County, and felt the ride was really short. The features of the car, were designed for rapid, long distance use with superb execution. If you are considering a CTS type of car; test drive it alongside a E350, and BMW 5 Series and see which vehicle meets your personal requirements.

Re: Xts
I can hardly wait to see the profile in hopes the XTS has the Cien/Converj side body creases I like so much, and I want to see the rear end to see how prominent the fins are, assuming they are projections of the tail lamp lenses vs. the rear quarter panel as back in the 50s. I'm also curious just much of a "fastback" look it has as that has been referenced by those who've seen it. I'd always imagined this car in black and am glad the teaser pic is of a black one. I am curious if the interior is more along the lines of the SLS, the Converj, or something altogether different. I can't think of the last time I anticipated a Cadillac so much!

Re: Xts
That scared me too. From now on I want new Cadillacs to be so boldly beautiful as to make people say/think "OMFG!" when they first see one. And they damned well better have fins!

Exactly. Everytime a Cadillac exec talks about the brand they always say something like: "Stand-out styling, blah blah blah". It worked so well with the original CTS because it is the entry level car and is (supposed to) sell in large numbers, and it did. The ATS is going for a younger, less wealthy demographic too. What will be the point in buying the Cadillac if its looks like a wannabe or just plain dull? You have to give buyers a reason to consider leaving an already established brand that they are largely happy with. It's dangerous to underestimate peer pressure, especially in the young (er). The lesson of the 03 CTS was that if all things are more or less equal (Performance, features, quality), then it's daring styling that gets a person not heretofore interested in your product to give it a look. If the 03 CTS had looked like any other MB/BMW wannabe the model designation would have been retired by now. But as it turned out, it's Cadillacs best selling model range. The ATS is, in my opinion, even more important to Cadillac than the XTS. The XTS will sell very well, I suspect. But it would be a successful ATS that will help secure a future for Cadillac. I'm starting to worry.....
