Turn Buick into a 300 maker

Now i know the general is trying to revamp the buick line of cars, and the lacross is a pretty good start i guess. The lacross still seems like a average buick though. The terazza is a good start too but considering it is also offered at Chevy, Saturn, and pontiac with different grills, its not that great. I think that they should try and turn buick into a classic American car maker. Im talking about the like 50s and 60s car. Chrysler started advertising the 300 as "finaly the American car is back" or something like that. The 300 is a big car with somewhat classic styiling. It sells really well to. What do you think would sell better the 300 or the lacross? Plus i dont think GM needs another luxury company. Buick is kinda like the old mans pontiac. Buick needs to be different, so why not specialize in making big stylish cars that would make a buick a buick instead of something else. If taking a risk with styling is a problem, its also a problem if they dont. Buick could be heading the way of the olds. If they took risks on styling and had more then one stylish car then each person would think at least one of their cars is to drool over.

Buick intends to release a couple cars on the new Zeta platform I believe. Thse will be ideal 300 competitors although I have a feeling that they'll be priced quite a bit higher than the 300. I'm looking more to the middle class pontiacs to take the show on the road VS the 300C....Chevy will probably be left to deal with the lower models...That's just the feeling I get though

Re: Turn Buick into a 300 maker

i feel you bakerna, I think that if GM placed an MSRP sticker that was the same as the total comes up to after the rebates, their sales would go through the roof, because all this retarded marketing about the rebates seems like tricky business. I myself was hestitating about going to a dealer to look at Pontiacs at first due to the high MSRP and the rebate, but then, a local dealer came up with the Idea of putting "actual prices" on the car, which made it so much easier. In other words, instead of advertising a car for 23, 000 and giving 6 000 in rebates, advertise at 17 000 and quit bitching about profit losses.

// I just realized profit losses = tax deductions (duh)//

The Zeta-based sedan will be a great addition to the Buick lineup, though I doubt it will be hardly the success the 300 is considering that Buick also wants to retain their older buyers.

I'm with you on this one. But I read in another post on this forum somewhere that the Zetas for Buick might not be ready as early as anticipated. Zeta can't get here soon enough and rumours are around that it will be later rather than sooner. C'mon General, do something!!!

Re: Turn Buick into a 300 maker

I have a 300C and considered waiting for the LaCrosse to come out before picking the 300 up. My wife saw the LaCrosse at the auto show and thought it was an updated LaSabre. While i love the look and performace of the 300C, a fully loaded LaCrosse was cheaper and FWD, at least better for the snow in the winter. I have seen some LaCrosse's at the dealership I feel it doesn't stick out compared to any other car on the street. I understand Buick doesn't want to alienate the older crowd, but they do need to be a little risky in their design and move more product out earlier than later, it was done with cadillac.

My wife and I liked the Concept from a few years ago, what happened to that? Also, i gave up my '02 WS6 (had a baby) and GM had nothing in the line up except the CTS-V(4-Dr.)to replace it with, (I considered the 04 GTP(had leased an '00-loved it) but the back seat was small, same as the V) the V and looked at 545i were both two expensive. Despite the LaCrosse being FWD i think i would have waited if it wasn't so boring because the price point and features are right on if you purcahse one.(but i won't give up the 300 for one)
