STS-V.... Ok

Well, I finally had the chance to sit down in an STS-V at the San Francisco Auto Show.
I must say, the leather around the dash... is not as high quality as I would have thought or expected, but it is quite nice, and certainly far richer than the dash material in the regular STS.

The wood is not bad either, though it still suffers from looking glued onto a plastic back. The rolltop cupholder cover is still there and still cheap looking. There really wasn't enough significant interior enhancements to the STS-V to really make it all that special. Thought with 469HP, that may be enough for most people. But in all reality, it's not. it's supposed to be a serious sports sedan. Then why aren't the seats more "sporty?" Suede inserts are nice to "hold" you to the seat, but that's really not all effective. Lateral support seems lacking. The seats, while nice, don't belong in a performance sedan like STS-V.

The crappy steering wheel needs to go. It needs more design and appeal to it. And the entire center stack needs to be revised. It's not "premium" enough. Or at least don't make it too plasticky.

Well, now that' i've sat in STS-V, I'm even more convinced now that the STS-V interior should be available on the STS V8 luxury package... and STS-V should have a LOT more to differentiate it.

Re: STS-V.... Ok

I got to see one at the Miami Autoshow, but it was locked!

The main thing that I find disapointing about the STS-V, and I love the STS, is the fact that I cant get the air conditioned seats, adaptive cruise or color HUD on the V.....WTF? If I am paying for the top of the line model, I want all the toys, though the adaptive cruise and HUD all are still standard on the XLR-V....

I like HP, but I like gadgets a little more, so I would have to stick with the regular 320hp RWD V8 STS for now...if I was in the market, but since I am not...

OH it sucks.
I love Cadillacs a lot, but there is just too much give and take between the STS V8 and the STS-V. If the interior of the STS V8 was just a notch better... oh well...

Like you said... the gadgets and all the toys...

STS-V is great.... but just not enough for its market segment.

Re: STS-V.... Ok

Performance wise, I think that it will be quite competetive and it more than likley will be priced way lower than it's competitors so it should do well. I dont have any problem with the STS, I sat in loaded RWD one this weekend, it is still one of my favorite news cars, I love all the features and I think that is a good looking car, for me, it really would not be a deal killer if I could not get the V with all the goodies since I like regular STS a whole bunch too I would'nt end up disapointed.

Having the STS-V and being able to get all the other goodies would be icing on the cake on a car that I already really like.

To be competitive it would have to be priced around ~$80K. As far as performance, 469 HP is at the low end of the spectrum in its class.

I'm a huge fan of the STS-v, but in all honestly I don't think it offers enough over the STS for me to consider it over an M5.

Well I think you should reserve judgement until you drive it yourself. I did.. and guess what is sitting in my garage right now?

Re: STS-V.... Ok

STS-V just plain sucks. Slower than a CTS-V. Slower than all it's competitors. Oh, I forgot it's $10,000 less than an E55. Yah, that'll sway the enthusiasts over to the Cadillac banner. The 2004 CTS-V beat the S4, M3, M5, C32 and everything else in it's class for thousands le$$. It was noisy, ill shifting, wheel hopping and the interior sucks according to some (not me). But guess what? It goes like stink and kicked German engineered ass. As for the STS-V. Why bother?

Congrats dude! I'm not going to say you should have bought the M5 for that kinda money because to be honest it's a matter of preference. You made a great choice and I hope one day soon I can join in on being a V-series owner. I'm looking into a few used CTS-V's since $50+ K is out of my price range. I can't think of a better car to get for under $40K though.

The STS-v is about more than just being fast. And it's no slouch in that field either.

Re: STS-V.... Ok

At $77,000 it had better be about handling, fit & finish, well engineered, well appointed and at least as fast as the competition. From where I'm sitting (reading) it has failed in 4 out of 5 categories. If you are in the $77,000 price range you can in fact have it all and most likely demand it. The Cadillac falls short where the E55 and M5 deliver. Unless the STS-V's competition was another name plate I've missed, I'm sorry but they failed. Failed miserably. As a 2004 and 2005 CTS-V owner I'm embarassed for GM.
