Sat in a DTS today!
Since today was a half-day at school I went to the mall. Anyway, the nearby Cadillac/Infinity dealer displays cars in the middle of the mall. Usally they're locked, but today there was actually someone from the dealership, and he was letting people sit in the interior.
Here's what I thought: First off, truly looks better in real life than in the photos, despite the fact that it was in a light gold color. (my least favorite) Second, The rear end looks nice, and though I see what people mean when they say it looks like a 1990 New Yorker, In person it looks way more Cadillac. The car looks bigger than the Deville for some reason, though I think they are the same size. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that. There's obviously a lot of room inside, and the seats were very comfortable. By the way, it had a bench and colum shifter. The dash fully lived up to my expectations, though I think they over did the texturing on the plastics. I think it was a luxury III package, so the use of real wood was nice, and if it wasn't, the fake wood sure had me fooled. The keys weren't in so I couldn't use any of the electronics, but the dealer guy probaly wouldn't have let me mess around with them anyway. Overall, I'm impressed. This car keeps everything I liked about the Deville, and fixed some of the things I didn't. However I don't have a lot of expeirence with the competion, though I also sat in a G35, but they're in a completly differnet class, so comparing them wouldn't be worth it.

That "fart burner" ads 5-10HP to your car ;some of those small Hondas can whip a Vett off the line. (from anti-rice.com)So 115hp+10hp=430hp, at least in ricerland |

Re: Sat in a DTS today!
after comparing the rear of the old and new dts i have decided that the old one is a bit too busy and cluttered but the new one is too sparse.

So I'm curious: when you say the G35 is in a completely different class, how do you see that class? And when you answer, remember: you're speaking for your generation. No pressure here . . . . |

Re: Sat in a DTS today!
My local Cadillac dealership has at least 4 of them on the lot. I cruised by last night when I was bored and wanted to take a peek at the 2006 Cadillacs. They had 2 DTS "Performance Sedans" and one DTS "Luxury III" sedan. The seemed to have about the same trim, except that the performance sedan has 7 or 8 spoke CTS/STS style wheels, while the luxury DTS has big chrome 10 spoke wheels, both looked like they were 18 inchers, but I did not get down to check.
I sat in both the LuxIII and Performance DTS's, the interiors are very similar, I was impressed with the finish, though the headliner material felt a little rough, I would have rather they used a faux suede material like "Escaline". Neither of the sedans had the navigational system, they actuall did not have any extra "options" at all, but they were both really loaded...both had.. Intellibeam Front and Rear Parking Assist Power Tilt and Tele wheel Massaging front buckets Heated and Cooled seats Memory Tri-Zone A/C Heated steering wheel Power Lumbar Rear Seats Heated rear seats HID Lights Heated Washer Fluid etc.. The DTS LUXIII was about $48,000 and the Performance DTS was about $50,000. The seats feel much more "padded" than the previous DeVille, and the headrests are much softer, they almost felt like a large leather pillow. The DTS still retains the "size" of the DTS which I really like, it feels very substantial, roomy and heavy, like a large safe older home, it may not be as modern as a new home, but it still has some great presence. Fit and finish was quite nice, I was surprised to find a real lighter and ashtray in the fron console of the DTS, the trunk seemed large with a big wide opening. The rear seat still has alot of stretch out room, enough that I can cross one leg over another without having my shoe hit the front seat. I think Cadillac could have concentrated a little better on some of the details, the rear reading lights could look a little more classy, and while the tri-zone climate control is nice, the switches are way down on the bottom of the console. But overall, the DTS interior is quite nice, I personally would have to have the navigational system, the radio is nice, but I think that the dash looks more upscale with the navigation. I personally am not sure if I like the font end as much as I do in photos, I really would have to study the car in a couple of different colors to see which one looks best. The 2 DTS's that I sat in were black and cashmere. |
