The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

My local Cadillac dealership has now partnered with a Hyundai dealership. I am now convinced that Cadllac will forever be 2nd tier luxury. Does GM have any control over their dealerships? There is a Santa Fe sitting next to an Escalade. WTF is going on?

Re: The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

These are private businesses. GM has little if any control. The two Caddy dealers near me are both stand alone. One of them however sits in very close proximity to a Porche and a BMW dealer. They haven't put him out of business and in fact he's had enough funds to renovate recently. I guess it's all relative.

Then it should be up to GM to exercise control over the dealerships.
Anyone know how much control GM has?

Re: The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

When my multi line dealership (which includes Cadillac) lost Oldsmobile....my dealer wanted to get Subaru, Saab or Suzuki. GM flat out said no...it had to be a completely seperate facility, no sharing, even with fixed operations. Only if we were to get Chevy &/or Buick could we continue as now, not with any other franchise.

I'm in the North Central region, so maybe different rules for different regions???

Let's see, my local Buick Dealership is Century Buick/Volvo/Jaguar/BMW in Huntsville, AL. I also see Isuzu truck maintenance certifications everywhere too. An interesting mix to say the least on the lot.

Right. If we would have tried for a non-GM franchise in 1995...we would have likely been given the green light. But the word since 2002, is that nothing new under our roof.

Re: The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

I'm disappointed that Cadillac has to be 'brought down' by its mainstream brand counterparts and after the wood pane photo's I saw in another thread, its quite frankly Embarrassing. That would NEVER happen in a Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus dealership. and those are the brands to benchmark...I don't care for any excuses, upgrade or shut down. Enough is E-N-O-U-G-H!

Re: The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

I think that GM could sign that into the contracts when these people start the dealerships, that they cannot be combined with any other company outside of Hummer or Saab.

That IS sad. Gold Coast Caddy, the "largest caddy dealer in the USA" has nothing attached to it but Hummer. If you keep going down the road, there is a Jag and a Lexus dealer.
Visusaly, Gold Coast is ugly. Its ugly on the outside, and next to it is this old brick building that just contrasts agasint the ugly white building that is the actual dealership. The brick building side has all the use cars, but its just ugly... Inside its pretty bad as well. You step into the Jag or Lexus dealers, well just looking from the outside, you can tell there is a maaaaaaaaajor increase in luxury. The lot up front isnt just a mish mash of cars, its clean and orgaized. You can see the IS's on one side, the RX's there, the ES's over there, and a few LS's and GS's parked in there own rows.
Gold Coast reaaaaaaally needs to revamp.

Theres a Cadillac dealership not to far from me where you can see Cadillacs sitting next to Bentleys and Rolls Royces. Thats how it should be.

Re: The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

Cadillac and Hyndai. That is pathetic. I could see bringing BMW or Mercedes together with a Cadillac dealer as they are all high class cars. But a freakin' Hyndai!

Hyndai and Cadillac is like Zima being mixed with Crown Royal. You just don't mix TRASH with the good stuff.

Re: The sad state of Cadillac dealerships

The local caddy dealer here, is a combo Caddy/Pontiac dealer. I would've expected that meant the pontiac dealer would give above average service... Turns out they both give crappy arse service. They wouldn't even give me a ride to work or home, because it was "too far away". Had to wait in their stupid lounge for the whole day, because I couldn't get a ride from coworkers, because there was a convention going on, so they were all tied up.

Or there is a Kia Saab dealer in Houston. The nearest Cadillac dealership is combined with Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, but they do have seperate buildings but then they also share a lot...

What Cadillac is that?

Yeah, that is definitely sad. Having the "best" GM brand sitting next to Hyundais. GM should be exercising more control over these dealers. Like say something like "We won't give you the new CTS if you do/don't do these things."
