Regal engines

What kind of engines are we expecting?

I got this tidbit from http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/11...nia-based.html

......"the new Regal sedan will be offered initially with two 4-cylinder petrol engines, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter unit developing an output of 165HP and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 217HP. Both versions will be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard"

2.0L Turbo sounds great. Crank it up to 260 though

Re: Regal engines

I assume "CarScoop" is theorizing that GM will use engines straight from the Insignia and the old-tech 2.4L. I have a feeling, if the turbo assumption is correct, we'll see a 2.4L DI ~180hp (like the 'Nox) and a 260hp LNF.

Maybe they're basing that figure off the non-SIDI version.

Re: Regal engines

I would think the DI 2.4 should be standard with the 2.0T making at least 265 hp as an option. Optimally it needs a V6 too but if they can pull off the 4 cyl with enough power and great fuel economy I would be satisfied.

I dont know if it needs a six the current iteration of the 2.0T in the cobalt SS is a sweet and powerful engine! If they modify the boost to raise the low end torque and a bit of the HP it will be a quick yet fuel efficient engine

Exactly, I'm fine with it as long as the powerband can perform comparably to its V6 competition. It can also be touted for its fuel economy.

Peak torque starts at 2,000 RPM and holds steady through 5,000. How much more low-end do you want? We don't need Grandma doing burnouts at every stoplight.

Re: Regal engines

the turbo 2 liter 260 hp motor belongs in this car!

In fact it belongs in every small car platform GM makes.

2.4 liter 182 hp
2 liter 260 hp..

No need for a v6. IMO

Add in a DSG tranny option for the sports version and it'll be hard to pass up on..

Get 8 percent better fuel economy too..

True but as I was discussing with friends Buick is the most impressive brand right now to guys my age. We also think they are postioning Buick as an Audi fighter. FWD AWD with 4cyl and 6 cyl

Re: Regal engines

Buyers of any kind will be welcome to the Regal, can't be too picky.

My grandmother drives a Saturn Astra, so you never know what people are going to drive. The Regal will pull in more younger buyers than many past and present Buicks simply because it's a smaller, less expensive model than they've had in years.

And then GM can play on Ford's marketing and call it EgoBoost!
