Re: Poll: Vote for name for next gen Lacrosse

Yesterday was a perfect example of why I am sick of Buick and others name hopping on vehicles.

A Gentlemen was parked behind me in a 2002 Lesabre Custom. He was walking up to his car while I was loading my bag from the gym. He says nice car and asks me what car is mine supposed to replace. LaCrosse has been on the market since fall of 2004 and a recent Buick owner cannot tell me that the LaCrosse is a replacement for Century/Regal.

I give him a quick run down on how CX and CXL models replace Century and CXS(now gone) and Super are to replace Regal. I mention this for Lucerne CX/CXL and CXS/Super for Lesabre and Park Avenue as well. What a mess.

If someone who goes to a Buick dealership is confused, what are potential customers supposed to think?

Complete stupidity on the manufacturer's part.

Re: Poll: Vote for name for next gen Lacrosse

I voted for Allure. I prefer the Invicta name, but I think it's more becoming of a flagship luxury sedan (Chinese Park Ave anyone?) than a midsizer.

My number two choice would have been Century, with Regal third. Regal should be kept waiting in the wings for a possible Buick Coupé.

I think they put too much money into the Lacrosse name to throw it away now.

No matter how much money you put in something, you just let it go when it doesn't work. I don't know how much money did GM put in the LaCrosse name, but it isn't working too well for them :/

But in all fairness, how old was this guy, if he was driving a LeSabre, I would say he was at least 60 or more, also, how into cars is he. He might be a Buick owner and have owned several Buicks, but he might not really be someone keeps on top of what is and is not available or what has replaced what. When I sold Buicks in the late 90's you would be surprised how many times you would get a Buick owner that would come in looking for a Skyhawk or a 2 door Regal or a Roadmaster Estate Wagon, or they would wonder why you could not get a red interior or white walls on something, the point is the many Buick customers are loyal to the make, but they are not exactly on top of automotive trends.

Re: Poll: Vote for name for next gen Lacrosse

I like the Electra name. It has a certain sharpness to it with a little post modern feel.

As for Invicta, it sounds too much like Victa:

The Original Victa Lawn Mower-Australian Sundays were never the same again when Victa invented and introduced this noisy machine into our home lives. Sunday paper boys' whistles were instantly drowned out with the roar of Victas throughout Australia. Push mowers were quickly being traded in on this new power machine. Paddocks of grass were being "turned into lawn" as the hype was stating. Toes and fingers were discarded by learners everywhere. Gardening boots and shoes, for the lucky ones, had their toes and sides ripped out as users learned the hard way how to safely operate. EJB

Thanks for the practical insight on the typical Buick customer of recent history. I would put him in past 55 at least. Not completely gray and still going to work.

I like the Invicta name, however, I agree with t-rex that it makes a fantastic flagship name. Electra is nice as well, wouldn't mind seeing that dusted off and used.

I agree with partner. Why did they dump names that were working for them? Regal, Century, Park Avenue, & LeSabre were their big sales sucesses of the Nineties. GM is a very stupid company sometimes.

Should they keep the Allure name in Canada?

Why not? It is a nice name, and most of the big automakers change the name of the same model in different parts of the world.
