New SatNav picture from the blogs and info on audio

http://cadillac.gmblogs.com/

I would still love a video of it in action.

awesome .. althought it looksa little chunky ...

I always hoped the CTS navi will be a slide out like that .... it makes the whole interior look much more upscale ..

Looks great!

I also see how, although they claim the "smart key" in the steering column is necessary instead of pushbutton start so they don't interrupt the flow of the dash design, that they are still willing to put a temp sensor right around where the start button would be.

Sounds like to me.

I am OK with the smart key in the steering column, instead of a push button on the dash, but I wish they would not lie about why. They are saving money, which is fine with me if it makes a better overall car.

Same goes for bluetooth. We know you are trying to push OnStar, however OnStar is crap for making phone calls. I do not want a seperate phone number for my car, that is why I carry a MOBILE phone

I don't think the column thing was to save money. I was thinking that at first, but the STS has a button setup and I am quite sure the investment needed for this new setup was much greater than borrowing the STS's setup. I am still not sure how it works exactly, but some have suggested you might not have to turn the dial to go if you use the remote start. If that is the case it is actually more advanced than any other system out there and also still needs a device to unlock the column once the fob is in the car and it is already running. We will see if it really works that way, but even if you do actually always have to turn the dial to unlock the column, I don't believe that was to save money as that is a different setup than anything else they had in inventory.

On the onstar thing though I agree 100%.

You seem to be quite the CTS apologist today.

So let's see, Cadillac had two alternatives about how they wanted to implement keyless starting:

1) Pushbutton on the dash (key fob in the pocket). With this, they would need to use a different steering column and route the wires to the dash instead of the steering column.

2) Knob on the steering column (key fob in the pocket). With this, they replace the physical lock and key mechanism with a part that has the same dimensions, has the same wiring, and probably uses the same return spring as the standard physical key would.

Now you're going to tell me that they didn't pick option 2 to save money?

My guess is that the XLR, STS, and Corvette all have the true pushbutton start because it costs a little more, but since those are all more expensive vehicles, the bean counters could justify it better.

I just don't buy the argument that GM made, that they did the smart key this way in the CTS because it's a more natural motion to twist something on the steering column than to push a button on the dash. It's just PR spin, IMO.
