Re: Ct6?

You just keep comin' up with great finds all the time!

I wonder if this has something to do with the engines originally planned. In 2010 the entire CTS line was to get significant upgrades to take it upmarket. This was to "make room" so to speak below for the new small RWD entry level car coming about at about that time. Also to offer a higher price car to get some of the market that was supposed to be buyng the STS, which has been a big-'ol flop.
Among these upgrades was to be what was called the "Ultra" V8. As we all now know, this program has been cancelled. My own guess is that V6 CTS's may have been called CT6, and the V8 versions CT8. But it's just a guess.

Thanks You!

I was also wondering about the engines having to do anything with the name, but as you said, it is just a guess from my part, too. But if this is the case it would make sense.

CT6 Compact Touring 6 ...as V6
CT8 Compact Touring 8 ...as V8

It reminds me a bit to the BMW or the Ferrari names (numbers actually) where the car "introduces himself" saying a few things about the engine, too.
I for one think it is an elegant way of presenting the product.

Shorter then the lets say IS 220, or SLK 230 and it's instantly indentifiable, and at last but not at least might be a good think for the marketing as well.

Re: Ct6?

I think the new naming scheme is just mirroring BMW. Think about those names GM recently trademarked:

DT7, CT6, CT5, BT3, AT1, DTX, CTX, BTX

If the CTS coupe will be named the CT6, to compete against the 6Series, then the CTS will most likely be re-named CT5, for it is the 5Series competitor.

BT3 will most likely be the smaller mid-size sedan under the CT5. AT1 will either be a sub-compact (odd), or maybe a coupe of the BT series...?
DT7 will eventually be the 'large' Cadillac car, with the 'X' suffixes being the AWD versions of those series.

Just a guess though...

Re: Ct6?

There is an entire thread on this..... Possible new Cadillac naming scheme

I'm still not too sure about the logic of this nomenclature. Don't even know how you designate engine size... or AWD...
And Escalade as a name is still there...

It's nonsense. It really is.

Re: Ct6?

oh man, if that's the case...

i give up.

I never liked the letter B in the Cadillac name to start with.

BLS... B? Luxury Sedan?
XLR... X? Xpensive? Xtreme? Luxury Roadster?
SRX... Seville? R? X over? or the AWD?

If BMW is behind this chaos... CT5 (5 series) CT6 (6 series)...i dont even know what to say. Whereas for the rest of the names...i give up.

After reading the other thread, I'm not even sure then, the number 6 indicates the engine...or what about the CT5?
5cyl AUDI engine? ))))

Who understands this?

Re: Ct6?

I'm guessing a mimic of BMW where the odd / even number designates a sedan / coupe (or if they mimic Audi, the other way around). I think it's silly; CTS has fantastic recognition and it would make no sense to change it. The people that name these cars should be as creative as the designers who pen them.

i think the ct5 is the 5-door, (hatchback, wagon whatever), the ct-6 is probably the new suv they're coming out with, the cts i don't think will change the name due to the fact that it has industry credibility and it would be a great loss,

the rest would basically be the same

Re: Ct6?

I really....really....really....really wish that this is not real, that this is not going to happen, that Caddy will stick to the current nomenclature and move foward. No numbers, just put the dam engine badge on the deck lid.
One side you put CTS the other side you can put the engine size 3.6/3.6DI/6.2SC
No numbers, no alphanumerics, just stick to the names.
BTS, CTS, DTS, XLR, BRX, SRX, ERX/T/V

Re: Ct6?

So if the CT6 was the new SUV, would it have 6 doors? If the STS4 is AWD, will the AWD CT5 be called CT54?

Oooh!!! The DT7 could be a stretch limo with 6 conventional doors and a hatchback!!! They'd be the first to market with a hatchback limo, & advertise it as the FIRST EVER DT7!!! They'd conquer the market & force Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus to follow!!!

Finally, Cadillac would be in the lead!!! I'm sooo excited

I have grave conerns about this as well.

Besides, GM has already spent tons of money trying to establish the CTS nameplate in the market -- and now they are going to walk away form it and call it CT5? What's the point of that?

I'm not sure I like this at all.

Also, AT1 makes me wonder if we will see the rumored "entry-level" Caddy for markets like Europe, etc. If that happens, I wonder if they will utilize Kappa for their 1-Series/A3 rival or turn to a worked version of the next Astra/9-1 for inspiration?

Interesting stuff, but you have to wonder why GM would do this now?
