    Buick Electra

You guys remember the USPTO filing?

    That one?

Rather than a Voltec or a big sedan, have we thought about this instead?

It makes sense. They'd also be reviving a nameplate... and being iconoclastic. From one of the biggest vehicles in a lineup to one of the smallest. It's perfect. It's a fresh, young sounding name. It's a play off of the Spark, too.

    Thoughts?

I dunno man... Name's just too perfect for a Voltec or electric vehicle, IMO.

Yep, put Voltec in the Encore & call it Electra. Gives Buick Voltec & gives buyers a 5seat crossover erev. GM can't do this one fast enough (I bet Buick has been looking at it awhile tho).

I like it, a new spin on an old name. And it come across as fresh. I typically don't like bringing back old names, because they sound exacly like what they are - old names from and older era.

I still like the Electra name as the Buick Flagship sedan.

    Re: Buick Electra

I'm not part of the "Buick needs the Adam now" group. I guess I see the appeal, but not the need. Its chief competitors here (Mini, Fiat 500) are sold differently, with unique dealers and they push an image with the car. Sticking Buick badges on it doesn't mean it should be sold in the same way as other Buicks, which have cut down on trims/options to a few basic groups. Part of what Adam is supposed to be about is customization (as Mini, 500 are).

That's not to say Buick can't do it differently with the Adam; but, the thing is they would need to do that, and IMO they need to focus on more than that now before carrying out a big campaign to push a car like the Adam. Buick needs to flesh out and establish the intermediate/large products (car or crossover) first, and GM needs to bring more compact hatchbacks before another city hatch or subcompact.

For the Electra name, leave it to a larger car, or Voltec, or don't use it. "Electra" could stand for something the way Ford uses "Energi" and something of a reversal from Electra being a model name to a trim. But that may not go over well with some, like how the VentiPorts now have no relation to trim or engine size or body size.

yeah, I still like the Electra as a Buick Volt too

Glad to hear someone else suggest former model names as trims ...part of my proposal for the 2020 RETURN of MERCURY

Yes. Want. The iconoclastic nature of it all pushes it over the edge into near perfection.

Given the right advertising, this is the sort of thing that would get people to sit up and notice Buick. The Regal and Verano, in the end, are "just cars" and don't shock people enough to really, fundamentally change Buick's image. At least from what I can tell hearing from friends and family. A mini EV does just that. If GM can finish filling out the Buick lineup at the same time this is introduced, this car could maybe bring enough halo to sell the rest.

But, it would have to be done right, as cdp points out, and I've given up on Buick getting it right.

Where would you put the batteries in a car as small as the Adam?

Ideally Buicks Voltec car should be something to compete against they lower end near lux hybrid cars like the Hybrid MKZ, something soft, quiet and comfortable.

I couldn't agree more. Adam does not fit Buick's image (imho) and would not be a sales success for them either.

I think the Adam would be a really bold move for Buick...but it needs to be redesigned to fit in more with Buick design before doing so, imo.

    What exactly is Buick's "image?"
