    2014 Buick Regal: What Changes Do YOU Want?

    Buick's success with the current Regal has been in question. However, most would agree the basic product is pretty good and a lot of the criticism centers around the engine choices and product placement in relation to the LaCrosse. The 2014 Regal is scheduled for a fairly mild update for 2014, but for the sake of discussion, consider what you'd do if you solely were in charge of the 2014 Regal project.

    What changes would you like to see?

    - Upgraded 2.0T engine with output equal to 2013 Chevy Malibu.
    - GS model with > 280 hp & 300 ft lbs torque. I don't care what it does to fuel Economy
    - Upgraded Interior
    - Drop E-assist for 1.6T engine.

    More Insignia features. Headlight washers, front parking sensors, rain sensing wipers, extendable seat cushion. Adaptive cruise? I think the forward collision alert and blind-spot detection are already a given.

    The better headlights standard. LED taillights (probably also a given).

    Memory driver's seat. Malibu has it, Regal already should have.

    Heated rear seats, cooled/ventilated front seats.

    More interior color options. The darker brown interior of the Insignia would be a start. Heck, more exterior color choices. Maybe a unique seat material choice - leather/suede or something.

    More/better wheel options than the standard 13-spoke 18" alloys.

    Consider offering a V6 since at $30k+ most models do offer one; if not, that's fine, but make sure the 2.0T has great specs in both power and efficiency. I think the flaw with it at 220 hp was that although it's more powerful than a standard TSX or the 2.0T in the CC/old Passat, and others, it's still an optional engine and those offer more powerful optional engines above that.

    Regular stop-start, rather/other than eAssist?

    Ahhh.. I'll get back to you. Have not found a thing to nitpick about yet after a whopping 48 hrs of ownership.

    I personally want it to have more colors. This is the "sporty" Buick yet the only decent color is Crystal Red Tintcoat. No blue. No green. Nothing that can be remotely exciting.


    Cooled seats is a MUST.

    Flat bottom wheel for all turbo models.

    Memory seats.
    Just that time again to ignore certain people. I'm certain they will continue to try and instigate and antagonize while throwing up their arms saying they did nothing but are here on a civil basis. Not worth the time seeing how some just seem to know all.

    It seems my suggestions for GM mirror many of you who have already posted.

    Exterior
    - new front bumper cover design (also allows for a more aggressive headlamp design tweak too)
    - projector HIDs standard
    - new base 18" wheel design
    - new, full LED tail lamp design based on the 2013 Enclave's new technology
    - additional colors (let's see a sharp blue, for example)

    Interior
    - new dash top design (current one is slightly austere and bland)
    - additional content from Insignia, such as blind spot monitoring, headlamp washers, parking assist, etc, which have already been mentioned
    - additional color schemes (borrow the Choccachino and maybe add one more)
    - new blue interior seat scheme option for the GS trims only (give us more choice than just black)

    Mechanical
    - 2.0T from new Malibu (might as well use the best engine in terms of economy and turbo lag) replaces standard 2.0T
    - 3.6L (LFX) replaces the high-output 2.0T in the GS, sport exhaust
    - Active 4x4 optional in Turbos, standard on the GS, not available on the eAssist

    Trims & Pricing
    - Current basic pricing and trim structure is good, but maybe 36K for a GS due to the inclusion of AWD, but obviously it can get more expensive now with more content and optional AWD on Turbos

    With all of this, the Regal would be more dynamic and more competitive in the areas of power and content.

    Edit: Long term, I wonder where the Regal and LaCrosse are headed. The LaCrosse will probably not go way, way upmarket and give the Regal the bulk of the 30-45K entry luxury market. The questions is whether or not GM can justify both cars in the future. I'm not saying they can or cannot, but I guess we'll see.

    Make a hipo hardtop convertible coupe. Give the GS foglights/drls. Stretch the whellbase by 2 inches.

    Guys, there has been complaining since day one about weight. Active 4X4 adds almost 200 lbs. Is it worth it on one of the best handling FWD cars ever? 3.6 wont be in the car. It would get 17/25 more than likely and that just wont cut it these days.

    The Lacrosse is going more expensive and larger like the Impala and will give the Regal the room it needs. A different body style (hello freaking WAGON AND COUPE!!!) will certainly help fill out the line up but this is sedan world from GM now.

    First off, I would add a wagon variant.

    It makes financial sense when compared to a coupe because the wagon variant already exists with the Insignia. The same could hold true for a coupe if the Insignia offers a coupe as well.

    I think the overall design of the Regal is still very fresh and modern and I think that only minimal adjustments should be made, like upgraded 17" wheels on the eAssist versions (which I think should remain standard).

    It would be fantastic to see a new color or two added to the interior of the Regal. The Verano offers the Chocochino color, yet the sporty Regal offers Cashmere and Ebony only. The addition of a nice brown leather would fit in with the current Regal with no other changes made, I'm thinking like the color that Audi uses. 029__scaled_600_015.jpg

    I would also like to see push button start as standard equipment and a heated steering wheel. Again, the lowly Verano offers features that aren't available at all on the Regal.

    Finally, a personal pet peeve. No more hidden exhaust. Do a single exhaust for eAssist version, integrated into the bumper and dual for Turbo and GS models.
