Re: 2012 Buick Convertible

I'm not a fan of that convertible and think it would flop in the USA.

Re: 2012 Buick Convertible

If it starts at $20K in the UK, that means at least $30K here. And that's the starting price.

I think not.

Ya, you can't take the exchange and use that. Compare the Opel Astra and the Satrun Astra for an idea of what it would be like.

Re: 2012 Buick Convertible

To me it has zero family resemblance to Buicks. Bummer the Velite was never built!

The Saturn Astra was sold with big losses, just to introduce the Astra to the US. Those Saturn Astras were built in Antwerp and due to the weak USDollar compared to the Euro, the Saturn Astra was just a money pit.
The new Delta II will be more global and the next gen Astra will also be (able to be) built in the US. At least, that was/is the plan.

Since Antwerp is now cut off from Opel pretty permanently now, you will see Astra lines in the US pretty soon. That would be my logic.

calm down Bravada. No, I didn't mean it's set already. But it is clear Antwerp will get the biggest hit. I am just speculating just like anyone else.

My main point just being, that Astras built in Europe are a loss when exported to the US. It is impossible to sell those by the exchange value. So it makes sense to build them in the US. And so far, that was the plan with Delta II.

Re: 2012 Buick Convertible

Oh, of all the Opel factories, Antwerp is the most doomed at the moment, because nobody loves Belgium. But Antwerp is part and parcel of Opel, not cut off. It will probably get wound down by the new masters thereof, much to the relief of Bochum, Ellesmere Port and Gliwice, but it will be sold as a part of Opel, GM has no interest keeping it.

Re: 2012 Buick Convertible

I don't like it as a Buick at all. But as long as we are talking convertables and pie in the sky, I don't think Kappa should've died with Pontiac and Saturn. I wish they would've built something like the Velite, maybe on a reworked LWB version of Kappa.
