One of our staffers had a first gen. Avalon. Your description of the back seat room doesn't fly. Did you take the trunk out in yours?

Interesting that, by your account, the seating room isn't the same in the current generation.

BTW, just pulled the spec's for the first gen. Avalon. The rear seat leg room? A whopping 38.4".
Gee, that puts it in the same class as the MKS? STS? The overall length is only 190" and the wheelbase is 107". You can only do so much with 190".
Nice try, bud.
The first and second generation of the fwd deVille had lots of legroom in the rear seat. Where did it go in the last generation DTS? Hint: look at the length of the front and rear seat bottom cushions. What you don't get in thigh support, you make up for in legroom. Smoke and mirrors.

We can only hope. I was hoping for some type of spy photo or something by now.

I recall reading an interview with Ed Wilburn - he described some of the most beautiful cars ever made. One was a Jaguar, a Cadillac, and some other vehicles. Then he said, "...and quite frankly the new Cadillac XTS."

Now I don't know if that is just to get the people and the press excited about the new flagship of Cadillac or if he is actually stating the truth.

I imagine the car won't lack flair and will draw attention. The CTS certainly did, and the upcoming CTS coupe is drawing attention as well. I just can't wait until I see some type of rendition of the XTS. I even like the name. I own a Seville now, and the new STS isn't bad, but I think the Chinese STS is better, and the DTS is okay. I think an overgrown CTS with more styling cues and more luxury features is what I am expecting for the XTS. I hope it is more than I can imagine.

I think I already want one.

Had that occurred Cadillac would still be profitable, but GM was stretched too thinly and did not have the funds to invest, or the management to make right decisions, for this the FOX raided the hen house!

EXACTLY! Especially the part about Caddy still being profitable had they took care of their biggest moneymaker!

The new XTS will be a good replacement for the DTS and if the styling and interior is as good or better than current offerings, it may help to turn around the downward spiral of Cadillac. We can cross our fingers and hope.

:drive.
Hopefully it will be a worthy car to fill the DTS's big shoes!

THANK YOU. You just confirmed something for me that I've been speculating. I'm two inches taller than you, and I AIN'T skinny either, and my same-platform as the DTS Lucerne has PLENTY of room in the backseat. I sat there myself with a tall person driving to check it out because I often travel with 4-5 passangers, and I want them to be comfortable!

How funny. I get the facts on your Avalon and you shift the discussion to the first and second gen. DTS. Kind of like your comments on the first gen. Avalon.
Well, just to be fair, i'll get the specs on the older DTS models and i'll let you know. I drove those mid 90's DTS cars as well. Nice rides.

Re: 2010 DTS Brochure

The 1994 Deville was a 209 inch car with 43 inches of rear seat room.
Fast forward to 2001 and you get into the 42 inch range on a 207 inch car.
Deville was dropped in 2006 and DTS was the official name for the car. The rear leg room was 41.6 inches. Can we really notice a change of less than two inches?
Your Avalon was three inches more deficient in the back seat, not to mention that it was more narrow.
I like a more substantial seat cushion, BTW. So, yes, there was more room.
Lots of room? Not so much.

You tell me whether the three inch difference in wheelbase made a difference in rear seat legroom between the 1976 deVille and Fleetwood Brougham models. Substantial. Don't remember commenting on any generation of Avalon.

Now we are back to 76. Holy cow.

Actually it was b4z that commented on his first gen. Avalon. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: 2010 DTS Brochure

I am really worried about what the STS/DTS replacement holds in store. Another foreign looking blandmobile with minimal chrome, overweight with a smaller trunk, little to no improvement in gas mileage etc. The DTS is hated by many of the younger set because it is a nice roomy traditional sedan with oddles of comfort and in the right color it stands out against most of it's bland look alike competition. There are many middle aged to older folks that really like these cars along with the Grand Marquis and Town Car because they offer what many of todays cars don't; roomy trunks and interiors, super comfortable seats, traditional smooth ride and nice sounding effertless V8 power. It really saddens me to see these idiot car companies abandon this segment and let it rot away. Why couldn't Cadillac upgrade the DTS with the 6 speed automatic, 320 HP VVT Northstar, next generation interior with more eye appealing colors and tarted up front and rear styling with new door handles, wheels etc? Basing this car on the same chassis that underpins the new LaCrosse is a mistake IMO unless they can somehow keep the weight in check, give it a decent sized trunk along with greater width and make it look far more impressive.
