2008 CTS: 304hp

Am I just really behind the times and this is old news, or did this slip under the radar?

Re: 2008 CTS: 304hp

Hmm..I knew the SFI would be sporting 258hp, but hadnt heard 304 for the SIDI. Although I suspected there would be something in the 300hp range.

Re: 2008 CTS: 304hp

I believe someone on GMI posted the 304hp rating a few weeks ago. I remember reading about it and this is the only place I would have seen that information.

Re: 2008 CTS: 304hp

i wouldn't be suprised if that engine is detuned..because of northstar V8 325 hp it wouldn't be nice if GM 3.6 l develops more power than V8. It will probably in near future (when nortshtar replacement comes) develop more power.

On second page now

304HP for 2008 CTS with Direct Injection

I doubt it is detuned.

Re: 2008 CTS: 304hp

Put a turbo on it and you could have a Sport model with around 330-350 HP and still get great gas mileage.

If GM was going to detune the Direct Injection 3.6 liter V6, it would make sense to stop exactly at or slightly above 306 horsepower. That would match or beat the Infiniti G35 sedan, Lexus IS350, and Lexus GS350.

Detuning your best V6 to have 2 horsepower less than the class leaders doesn't make sense.

Re: 2008 CTS: 304hp

That sounds about right.

The CTS needs to be competitive with the G35 sedan both in regards to price and performance for it to really be a big seller. It has the look, otherwise.

QFT

not even to mention the G37's 330hp engine which Infiniti can drop in the G35 sedan and M35 with probably just a few months notice. and given GM's current need for good reviews, i'd say they should wring every pony they can out of their best engines. if the 3.6DI can make 320hp it should do so for the Caddy's... leaving the 300hp models for Pontiac and Buick.

Re: 2008 CTS: 304hp

Isn't there plans do do a 4.0L version of this motor? Can't wait to see the HP numbers of that when it does arrive. It will probably be done at the same time as the new V8's to keeps the HP numbers fromt stepping on the toes of the current V8.
